ATLANTA -- Notre Dame, the Tide rolls for thee.
Alabama rallied twice in the second half to down Georgia 32-28 in the SEC Championship game at the Georgia Dome on Saturday, all but assuredly earning a shot at the No. 1 Irish in the BCS title tilt on Jan. 7.
Down three with five and a half minutes to play, Alabama QB AJ McCarron threw a 45-yard pass to Amari Cooper for with 3:15 to play. The drive took four plays.
In what has become two teams swinging anvils at each other all afternoon, Georgia blew an 11-point lead only to restore its advantage early in the fourth quarter, leading Alabama 28-25 as the teams have three 100-yard rushers on the day between them.
The third quarter began as an utter disaster for Alabama, as Georgia seemed poised to vanquish demons after collapsing against LSU in this spot last year. It opened the second half with a 75-yard drive to a Todd Gurley 3-yard touchdown run and a 14-10 lead.
Then the Georgia special teams continued its rout in this affair, blocking an Alabama field goal attempt with Alec Ogletree returning it 55 yards for a stunning score and a 21-10 advantage midway through the third.

Alabama would have won by at least two TDs more had they not had to suffer the SeeBS crew that were leading the game officials by the nose. (a tipped ball does not negate pass interferance, and when a receiver hits the ground with the ball cradled in his arms its a reception, and whatever happens after hitting the ground is irrelevent)
The call on the field was an intercepted pass. The replay official had CONCLUSIVE evidence from various angles that the ball touched the ground on the catch (the ball was not caught in the player’s arms as you stated, it was between his hands), thereby overruling the call.
By the way, the illegal hit by the lineman on the GA QB before halftime was grounds for ejection. He should be disqualified for the BCS Championship game.
Eh sorta like rootin’ for the gators,,, just hard to do.
Well, if he stays healthy he’s likely toe hold some records for awhile !
McCarron was hit the same way shortly before that. And the CBS crew never really established whether the play was over when the Georgia QB was hit. The pass was intercepted, and then every Georgia player became a potential tackler. It was legal to block him, but the hit was too high.
The play was a fade to the receiver going into the end zone. Conley was to go in the flat and hopefully pull the corner up to open up the fade. The ball was batted at the line and went to Conley. You are a receiver all your life and the ball comes to you you catch it. That’s what he did. Can’t fault him, though in post game interviews he blamed himself. If the ball is not batted, it’s either a touchdown, and they win, or incomplete, and they get another shot.
The reason they didn’t spike it was to prevent an Alabama substitution.

As much as I would wish that, it ain't gonna happen. That's alright, the Gators will be celebrating a title in March.
Notre Dame is smarter than Georgia. Go Irish!
Now be nice. Brian Kelly is pretty cool. And he didn’t coach for the Dolphins.
Wait! Is that the piece of toast with the image of the Virgin Mary on it? I think I can see it! Yes! I can! Ave Maria! Go Irish!
I came away thinking Notre Dame does have a decent shot of pulling it off.
I understand. Bur for me, Roll Tide!
Besides, I’d cheer for Awbarn if they were playing Notre Dame. War Eagle.
Tide. Believe it or not, I’ve never been a Bama hater. War Eagle and Roll Tide!
Ain’t noboday gonna beat the tar out of ND, y’all. Go Irish!
I see, I see ... an Our Lady `Hail Mary’ with 2 seconds left and then a gaggle of crestfallen leprechans being helped from the field.
Pray all you want Mr. Chips—it’s gonna be a real massacre. In other words, the usual ND bowl game.
Oh, yeah, a real cool guy who left his Cincinatti team before they played their bowl.
