WASHINGTONHouse Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi will try to force a vote on the House floor to extend current tax rates for the middle class next week if Republicans do not act, the California Democrat announced on Friday.
During a press conference on Capitol Hill, Pelosi called on House Republicans, who control the chamber, to hold another floor vote on whether to extend current tax rates for individuals who earn $200,000 or less and families making $250,000 or less. If they don't, Pelosi vowed to file a "discharge petition" that would force a vote if 218 House members sign it, which is unlikely.
The bill Pelosi wants to see put to a vote is identical to a measure passed in the Democrat-controlled Senate in July that extends the rates for middle-income earners for one year. House Republicans responded by rejecting the bill and passing their own measure that extends current tax rates for all income brackets.
"We're calling upon the Republican leadership in the House to bring this legislation to the floor next week. We believe that not doing that would be holding middle-income tax cuts hostage to tax cuts for the rich. Tax cuts for the rich, which do not create jobs, just increase the deficit, keeping mountains of debt for generations," Pelosi said. "To that end ... if it is not scheduled, then on Tuesday we will introduce a discharge petition."

And when it passes there can be a vote on sequestration.
can we get the gop to start buying ads stating the problem as exactly as it is..that we are trillions in debt, that taking all money of the top 5 would do little to solve the problems, and that its the rats and bammmey the boy who dissed the Bush middle class tax cut in the first place....
it would be money well spent....because they aren't getting on the media or getting their msg across without buying the time...
God bless her cold dead heart.
Can I get a private jet with that Nasty?
I don’t understand this. Nazi always said the “Bush tax cuts” only went to the “rich.” Why is this an issue now if the “middle class” didn’t get any tax cuts to begin with?
You’re exactly right. I heard somewhere that the total tax increases in real dollars to those making over $250K will fund the government for about 1 week. That’s the upside. The downside is the damage of lower employment plus hardships it will cause small business who file schedule C each year.
Bottom line is there is no bang for the buck. Obama owns this economy until he figures out how to fix it.
Pelosi has some nice stuff ~ I want some of it. If she gets a discharge petition, or some other kind of discharge, or whatever, it should be amended to transfer title or all her stuff from her family to me.
Yahoo! News is really doing the bottom feeding leftwing media world proud.
I think the best thing the house can do is....nothing.
No bills what so ever.
If we can survive without a real budget, I would think we would do quite well without any new laws.
The Democrats have been laying the tracks for this train directly towards the cliff.
Make no mistake, there is nothing the GOP can do that will prevent the coming crash. If Romney had won, there was a possibility of changing policy but now, this administration will do what ever it wants, legal or not. Constitutional or not.
But I do not hold out any hope that the Republican elite will do anything other then roll over and give the Democrats everything they ask for and then meekly accept the blame for the financial mess we are in.
Then why did Pelosi vote against these very same tax cuts back in 2003?
Delay. Put it on the schedule for next April. Don’t let them keep piecemealing in these tax increases. Who here thinks that Obama is not going to come after the middle class once the seven days of government spending are drained from those making $250,000 or more a year? This is all theater. We know he’ll have to come after us in the middle class. Let him take it now and get the credit because as sure as the sun comes up, he’ll raise taxes on the middle class and get the press to blame the Republicans. OK, hero, raise those taxes. At least this way, the Republicans only have to take one thumping by the press instead of two. And make him pay where it hurts him....government employees and income tax rebates. It’s about time the Democrats got socked in the nose for all their stupid voting.
bingo....BTTT
Don’t believe a word this traitor says.
In the words of a former First Lady,”Just say NO!”
>> this is the narrative that the rats have got the SCM to swing with...that those evil republicans are trying to RAISE the taxes on the middle class....
Exactly.
“Yahoo News”... carrying the propaganda that even POLITICO finds too silly LOL!.

The democrats are neo nazis and the pubs are their finger puppets and it has been necessary for conservatives to band together as one or die the death of the stupid within.
"The rich alone use imported articles, and on these alone the whole taxes of the General Government are levied (emphasis added). Our revenues liberated by the discharge of the public debt, and its surplus applied to canals, roads, schools, etc., the farmer will see his government supported, his children educated, and the face of his country made a paradise by the contributions of the rich alone, without his being called on to spend a cent from his earnings." --Thomas Jefferson to Thaddeus Kosciusko, 1811.
And I suspect that if Pelosi and her rich friends had to face the prospect of having to uniquely support paying for the federal government to run again that she'd probably be among the first to point out Justice John Marshall's official clarification of Congress's limited power to lay taxes. Justice Marshall noted that Congress is prohibited from laying taxes in the name of state power issues, issues which Congress cannot justify under Section 8 of Article I of the Constitution.
"Congress is not empowered to tax for those purposes which are within the exclusive province of the States." --Justice John Marshall, Gibbons v. Ogden, 1824.
And let's consider how much taxpayers should be paying Congress to fulfill its Section 8 duties every year. Here is my rough estimate.
Given that the plurality of clauses in Section 8 are defense related, and given that the Department of Defense (DoD) budget for 2011 was $600+ billion, I will generously round the annual DoD figure to $1 trillion, but probably much less, as an estimate of how much the federal government should be costing taxpayers per year.
In other words, we shouldn't be hearing about multi-trillion dollar annual federal budgets that the corrupt media, including Fx News, is reporting in public policy discussions without mentioning Justice Marshall's clarification about Congress's limited power to lay taxes.
This is it! This is the issue! This is the Republican bargaining chip! To the Democrats, middle class means government workers. That’s their big voting block! If taxes go up on the middle class, that means their big supporters take a hit! The Democrats don’t care about plumbers or auto shop owners. They care a lot about government employees! Ohhhh...that wouldn’t look good. Obama runs the train over the cliff right before the 2014 elections. A lot of Democrat Senators in that election. I don’t like the idea of raising taxes, but I’ll take a tax increase if it means all those government employee Democrats finally take a hit. They’ve been standing around grinning too long.
