Texas Sen.-elect Ted Cruz advised the Republican Party to rebrand itself under a banner of Opportunity Conservatism during a sweeping speech Thursday night that will only stoke speculation about a 2016 presidential run.
Speaking before the conservative American Principles Project dinner at a downtown Washington hotel, Cruz said the GOPs thumping in the 2012 elections was more the result of poor messaging and communication than the wrong ideology.
Why did we lose? It wasnt as the media would tell you: because the American people embraced big government, Barack Obamas spending and debt and taxes.
That wasnt what happened. Im going to suggest to you a very simple reason why we lost the election: We didnt win the argument, Cruz said before pointedly lowering his voice. We didnt even make the argument.

Opportunity Conservatism NO! Remember the last time we put a word in front of “conservatism” to qualify for more voters?”
I couldn’t resist. Your statement with your name, LiberConservative. Ironic!
LOL! I like it!
“No person except a natural born Citizen, or a Citizen of the United States, at the time of the Adoption of this Constitution, shall be eligible to the Office of President.”
THAT is the NBC clause in it’s entirety. The constitution never mentions all the things we often hear about what constitutes NBC. That was left for congress to decide by legislation. The constitution only mentions two kinds of citizens. Citizens and Natural Born. If you are a citizen without needing naturalization, you’re NBC. There is no third class. It isn’t naturalized citizens, then NBC, and then some oddball group in the middle that is a limited citizen with some limits, but never needing naturalization.
Cruz is eligible. There’s not even a question under the constitution, or under the law.
George P. cannot become pres because at the time of his birth, Columba was not a U.S. citizen. She became naturalized 13 years later after his birth...1987.
“That shows how out of touch the GOPe are.”
They are not out of touch, they are just as opposed to grassroots conservatives and individual liberty as are the Democrats. They are not stupid. They are very cunning Quislings.
Your head was filled with concrete at birth.
If you keep you mouth closed, no one will be the wiser.
AAAAAAAAAAAAAahhhhh!
He can claim he was born in Hawaii, and we can make up a birth certificate that says so. MSPublisher, Corel Ventura, MS Word, etc.
Heck, we can probably even get it faxed to Dan Rather’s favorite Kinko’s.
I think he is NBC. And I see all kinds of things offered as “requirements”, but not one of them is in there in the Constitution to read, or in the law that i know of. I hear some say both parents must be NBC, That Cruz’s dad being naturalized would knock him out, i hear that Obamas mom cannot give citizenship to Obama unless she was 18, etc etc.
But we are left with the clause in the constitution, and with the law defining who does not need to be naturalized. People dress it up with a lot of opinions, but i cannot see anything, anywhere, that creates some citizens by birth, who do not possess full rights.
Excellent idea.
“Order of business #1? CLOSE the primaries!”
From your mouth to God’s ears. And why are the first two primaries in Iowa, and New Hampshire? Both are rife with fraud and filled with eager leftists. In a year like this they have nothing, NOTHING, to do except cross over.
Also, Iowa and NH both allow same day registration. Obama benefitted from large numbers of Illinois activists coming in to the caucuses winning over Hillary by fraud. Romney also allegedly manipulated Iowa.
New Hampshire is famous for Massachusetts plates at the polling places.
You NAILED the problem.
Lol you’re funny! I stated the law as it exists, and the NBC clause of the constitution. You answer with an insult.
I win, because it’s clear that you cannot refute me.
Come on. Try to use your words for us.
Ouch.
We’d better stop looking for a superstar and start promoting conservatism, or we’ll never win.
IF there is even an election in 2016, we’d be smart to start looking for ways to make it fair, to stop the fraud, and energize the base.
Even Romney - RINO that he is - energized the base...but it was at the end, and mostly in hopes that we would oust obama.
Right now, in the current status quo, obama is unbeatable. He’s tossing loaded dice and no fair player can beat that; he’s like a deaf mute beauty contestant...a sure win.
The RNC should start with an ongoing series of PSA (Public Service Announcment) spots running everyday, pointing out the foibles and incompetence of liberalism, obama, and his ilk. The consequences of their actions should be pointed out in an ongoing advertising plan to get the message out.
Republicans waiting until the last six months before the election and trying to razzle dazzle the voters with charts, graphs, and figures is totally useless and over the heads of most voters. Listening to that kind of stuff turns off most TV viewers, many of whom are “headline readers” and “photo opp junkies”. Save the detailed stuff for the print media, and the people who are interested WILL take the time to read and understand it.
Sell conservatism like a product - people these days are tuned to that style of learning. Produce situation ads with actors, graphics and music. The drip, drip, drip of the ideas will be more effective than interviews with Greta and Sean.
The “Geico” commercials are known by everyone, whether you like “Geico” or not, they have run a masterful advertising campaign over the years, usually in 15-second spots, driving home the point.
Nobody - especially the “independents” are captured by long, droning, monotone people giving facts and figures about the economy. Voters want to know how it will affect THEM, their paycheck, and their lifestyle.
Spots showing the projected misery of people after going over the “fiscal cliff” will be more effective than Paul Ryan talking about “capital gains” or “recession”. These things are of interest to business, but the rank and file voter is only intereste in whether they have a job, will keep their job, and can send their kids to college.
America is run by TV, and the media. Riots are put on by people for the TV coverage of their “cause”...take away the cameras, and all calms down. So, we’ve got to use that in reverse.
We don’t even need to be mentioning possible GOP candidates for 2016...it has the same effect on the competition as obama telling the enemy when we’ll be pulling out of Afghanistan.
As I learned from my years in radio, you “don’t sell the steak, you sell the SIZZLE”, or “don’t sell shoes, sell WALKING COMFORT”. Sell the benefits much harder than you sell the product.
Correct.
The NBC clause depended on generlly recognized English Common Law for definition. That was perfectly OK back then before the “depends on what the meaning of is, is” lawyers took over.
For once my optimisim for our once great country is exhausted, I am looking forward to the Second Republic of Texas.

Last time I checked, a one percent loss against an incumbent president and a two vote swing in the Senate hardly constitutes a "thumping," that assuming there was no massive ballot fraud and electronic count manipulation for which there is every indication.
And have the first Primary in Texas, we are the biggest solidly Republican state, therefore we should have a big say as to whom the nominee is.
So wouldnt many here say he is not eligible for POTUS?
No.
