...in the hopes of finding rapid and cost-effective housing options on small boats or similar vessels. ROTFLMAO! Give 'em some inner tubes and some plywood. They can make their own houseboats. Buffoons!

A perfect example of the type of dunderheads are running these big government beauracratic nightmares.
I just can’t wait until people like this are in charge of the nation’s entire healthcare system

Do you know how many people you can stuff into just one supertanker? Seriously, the more people are accustomed to relying on the government for their survival, the bigger this problem will get over time.

Look for the clause that says Longshoreman’s Union workers have to load and offload groceries, etc., for the FEMA boathouse families.

The return of the prison ships...
Now come all you wild and you reckless youths wherever that you be
I would have you quit night-walking and shun bad company
And it's
Son oh son what have you done
You're bound for Botany Bay
I was born and bred in Whitby town and raised up honestly
Until I became a sporting lad which proved my destiny
And it's
Son oh son what have you done
You're bound for Botany Bay
I broke into some lady's house about the hour of three
Two peelers stood behind the door and they got quick hold of me
Crying
Son oh son what have you done
You're bound for Botany Bay
It bein' at the March assizes the judge to me did say
Now the jury has found you guilty, lad, you must go to Botany Bay
And it's
Son oh son what have you done
You're bound for Botany Bay
Oh to see me aged father a-trembling at the bar
Likewise my own dear mother, she 's a-tearing her grey hair Crying
Son oh son what have you done
You're bound for Botany Bay
It bein' on the twenty-third of March from England bore away
And as we sailed down the Humber we heard the sailors there
Crying
Boys oh boys there are no joys
Down there in Botany Bay
- The Whitby Lad

Some love big government because only big government can solve “big” problems. But do they?
It seems like after every national disaster big government attempts to re-invent the wheel. You would think after years of floods, tornado, earthquakes, forest fires someone would be able to come up with a simple list of things that people will need afterwards.
Emergency planning should involve what to do before the emergency, what to do during the emergency, and what to do after the emergency.
Each disaster has it own unique set of problems, but most all share the same set of problems.
I had thought the whole idea behind FEMA was to provide an overall coordination of all the various emergency responders and to provide financial assistance.
So the question is, after years of dealing with natural disasters where hundreds and thousands are rendered temporarily homeless FEMA does not already know how to provide temporary shelter?

living on boats in a New York/NJ/CT winter is such a pleasant experience, what with all the insulation and energy efficiency. Boat potties are to die for with fun pumping -
oh wait, can't do that once the boat is winterized plus....marinas and harbors are “no discharge” zones. So liveaboards get to crawl out onto icy decks and piers to take the long walk to go to the pot or take a shower or wash clothes
Yeah your average storm victim person is gonna love being a NYC winter liveaboard, especially families and seniors
not

Surely some cruise line has an older ship FEMA could rent...
They can hold several thousands...
Government paid vacation...in NY harbor !!!
Mobile homes were good enough for Katrina victims...
I guess they should put them up in Waldorf ?

Fema should check all those Katrina trailers to see if any are unoccupied and still usable. Then take both of them to NJ.
That should be doable in six months for less than a million bucks.

So this is the greater NYC area during a sever recession. Anybody care to conjecture what the office space vacancy rate might be for first class office space? Anyone think landlords might be interested in a quick infusion of short-term cash? Anyone the displaced people might be better off in a downtown location than bobbing up and down tethered to a dock?

FEMA is exploring an idea HOW LONG after the hurricane?
Oh wait, election is over. baraq has a tee time.
And he has taxes to raise.
Also heard that homes that were being rebuilt had to comply with epa regs on heater emissions, requiring them to purchase much more expensive heaters.
