AP Under Attack for Removing Islamophobia, Homophobia from Stylebook

First the Associated Press announced that it would continue using “Illegal Alien” instead of “Undocumented American”, “Accidental Border Crosser” or “Beautiful Dreamer” on the grounds that it was well… technically accurate.

Now the AP is throwing out Homophobia and Islamophobia on the grounds that they are inaccurate and conflate prejudice with mental illness. And that has led to outrage hysteria from the usual organs of the left who like sticking to their politicized words once they’ve made enough people aware of them.

“Ethnic cleansing is a euphemism for pretty violent activities, a phobia is a psychiatric or medical term for a severe mental disorder. Those terms have been used quite a bit in the past, and we don’t feel that’s quite accurate,” AP Deputy Standards Editor Dave Minthorn said.

Again, that is accurate, despite the progressive response that adding phobia as a suffix allows it to mean a completely different thing.

The Associated Press is not taking a conservative position here, but we have reached such a point of cultural decay that fact-based positions that derive their grounds from reason and proof are already innately conservative. Or as George Orwell put it, “We have now sunk to a depth at which restatement of the obvious is the first duty of intelligent men.”

The left’s counterattack on behalf of homophobia is already irrational, even from the standpoint of their own interests, because it communicates mental problems when the goal is to communicate bigotry.

Slate argues that homophobia is just like arachnophobia. The argument is wrong on a number of levels. The most simple level where it’s wrong is that the subject under discussion is not even fear. It’s dislike. The Guardian and several other media outlets have churned out pieces arguing that dislike of homosexuality is primarily motivated by fear. But that’s an opinion and the very argument testifies to a news media that is hardly able to distinguish fact-based reporting from opinion-mongering.

Finally there is something Orwellian about describing political or religious views in terms usually employed for mental illness. It skips past discussing what people believe or do to claiming intimate knowledge of their motives and passing judgement on their sanity. It’s reasonable for the AP to opt out of such heavily politicized and inaccurate language that claims to report on the state of mental health, rather than the state of events.

What ever happened to this sicko that needs to be pushed in a ditch?

“Larry Brinkin, veteran San Francisco gay rights advocate, arrested for felony possession of child porn, police say

SAN FRANCISCO - Veteran San Francisco gay rights advocate Larry Brinkin was arrested Friday for felony possession of child pornography, which included images of children as young as a year-old engaging in sex acts with adults, police said.

Investigators said Brinkin, 66, had pornographic images on email attachments that appear to show infants and toddlers performing sex acts on men, reported the San Francisco Chronicle. Representatives of America Online contacted authorities after coming across the email attachments from one of its subscriber’s accounts.

The LAPD traced the IP address associated with the account to Brinkin, who resides in San Francisco, according to court records. The LAPD then forwarded the case to San Francisco police, who executed a search warrant Friday and seized computer equipment.

Brinkin was taken into custody Friday night. He spent the night in jail before he was released on bail. The district attorney’s office will decide Tuesday whether to file charges.

“We’re still reviewing the case,” district attorney’s spokeswoman Stephanie Ong Stillman said Monday.

Brinkin worked for the San Francisco Human Rights Commission before his retirement in 2010. During his 22-year tenure at the Human Rights Commission, Brinkin was best known for championing equal rights for gays and lesbians, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.

Bevan Dufty, formerly from the Board of Supervisors, said Monday that he was shocked to learn of Brinkin’s arrest.

“I have admired and respected his work for the LGBT community,” Dufty said. “I respect and am confident that there will be due process.”

~~ I heard on the radio that he was tied into a very elite political group that’s covering for him.

I had a lesbo go after me when I was about 12...at the YWCA...I told my brother because I was frightened by it.

He said stay away from her and if it happens again, tell him. He was only 16.

I quit the Y instead and joined a Thespian group at our wonderful Museum.

My daughter is 20. When she was 16 in high school, she was sexually harrassed by a lez.

We coached her on what to do, and had the school respond. And we’re happy to report the matter was handled correctly.

A few months later, me and my daughter were entering a medical office building on our way to her eye dr. appointment. A nice young man saw us coming and held the door for us. I thanked him and we went on in.

“Dad! Dad!” my daugher said; “That was ******. That’s the girl who was harrassing me!”

Holy Crap. That was a girl?

“Slate argues that homophobia is just like arachnophobia.”

KEWL! ! !

That Libtard has equated an evolved avoidance mechanism centering on the dangers of spiders with homosexuals. He has made the argument that fear of homosexuals, like fear of spiders, is an evolved mechanism, one that protects against an enduring danger.

Thanks, Tardie Poo.

>> The left prefers to label their opponents as mentally ill

No, the goal was to maliciously cast the normal objection to homosexuality as an irrational fear.
