In response to President's #My2K Hashtag twitter request (estimated increase in taxes for middle class), I recommend instead we all twitter with the Hashtag #My52k - the amount every grandparent, parent, and child individually owes on the national debt. Republicans should offer no new revenue without a capitulation on spending.

Please make this viral....

The problem is, there is a high percentage of the 47% who don’t care how much the per-person debt is, because their entire future is planned around receiving, not paying.

You are right to make this an issue (I don’t twitter or whatever it is). I think the GOP made a mistake (among many) by not making the debt per person or per household a much bigger issue in the campaign.

you are correct. the 47% will pay NOTHING

of course, those stats are misleading. it’s 47% of those filing taxes... NOT 47% of the population.

if you actually did the math:

debt: $16.3 trillion
US taxpayers: ~ 140m

number of taxpayers not paying (47%): 65.8m
number of taxpayers actually paying (53%): 74.2m

cost per person actually working to pay the debt:

$ 219,904

"#My52k vs. #My2k"

How many Medicare Advantage users who previously had a PPO for $0 now have to pay $70 per month to get the same thing? $70 pm = $840 per year.

Republicans should say they'll be happy to discuss tax hikes once the Democrats implement the spending cuts they promised... Ronald Reagan in exchange for his take hikes... George HW Bush in exchange for breaking his '"Read my lips, no new taxes" promise... and the spending cuts Barack Obama promised in his FIRST campaign. The GOP House will gladly, and swiftly pass any and all of those outstanding Democratic promises. But until Harry Reid and Barrack Obama them we refuse to kick the next tax hike football they're holding.
