Consumer confidence rose to a four-and-a-half-year high in November as consumers became more optimistic about the outlook for the economy, according to a private sector report released on Tuesday.
The Conference Board, an industry group, said its index of consumer attitudes rose to 73.7 up from an upwardly revised 73.1 the month before, its highest since February 2008. Economists had expected a reading of 73.0, according to a Reuters poll.

There are going to be a lot of surprised people over the next year or two.
Surely that overly rosy economic data they blared just before the election didn’t influence opinion to this degree? it did correspond with the change in the Gallup tracking though, didn’t it, over the weekend prior to the election?
good! Can’t think of a more deserving bunch.
It’s not “consumer confidence”...it’s called “Christmas Shopping” and great Black Friday deals...that’s all.
Lookout January.

You are being very charitable in assuming that they will be alert enough to notice.
They will notice the difference in withholding in their first check in january.
Many families will be informed they have to fork over a few more thousand to the IRS due to the AMT trigger reverting back to 2000 levels.
The ones surveyed were residents of the 57th state.
Aren`t Americans amazing in their uncanny ability to either forget or ignore the horrid state of this country`s economy? 7.9% unemployment.. oh, pshaw.. record numbers of people on welfare, disability and food stamps... that`s the new prosperity! After all...the beloved and adored Lord and Savior Obama just got reelected, the country is eagerly embracing socialism, taxes will soon go up on the eeeeeevil rich people, and the freebies are flowing like there`s no tomorrow!
There`s joy, joy, joy all around!!!
US policy over the last 2 decades has been to underwrite debtors at the expense of savers, so of course consumers just love it. The Fed continues to reward them with cheaper and cheaper money, while forcing pensioners to take greater stock market risks since they can’t do much better than 1% in an annuity.
Weird. I could have sworn I read that consumer confidence fell in November....can anyone find that thread?
My confidence has never been higher than it is today. I am now 100% confident the economy is going to crash.
