A man who killed two teenagers in his home in Little Falls on Thanksgiving Day told investigators he shot and wounded the two at close range before "finishing" them with shots to the head.
Byron David Smith, 64, was charged Monday, Nov. 26, in Morrison County District Court with two counts of second-degree murder without premeditation in the deaths of Nicholas Brady, 17, and his cousin Haile Kifer, 18.
Smith claims Brady and Kifer broke into his home and he was "fearful" they had weapons, according to the criminal complaint.

Nonsense. Once the intruders were neutralized and no longer a threat, executing them becomes a crime in and of itself. The guy can try to make the argument that the wounded youths were still a threat. Good luck with that.
Having your home broken into does not convey unlimited rights to assault the intruders with a firearm, nor should it.
I'm very much a "Castle Doctrine" believer, but the facts of this case seem to indicate that the homeowner committed a crime far greater than that which was committed against him.
Just tracking through his story he used his deadly force to defend himself. Then, when they were disabled, he used deadly force to kill them.
There's some passage of time between the events as well ~ between disabling them and killing them.
That's considered MURDER!
Actually, I don't believe his story.
He first wounded both of them below the waist, and then later shot them in the face, close up and personal, he even moved the girl before finishing her off face to face.
I think that we can figure that he was talking to them as he was killing them.
The autopsy should cover much of this ~ he shot her several times according to his claim. Bet he stuck more in her than bullets.
Well in this case the executioner WAS a government employee -- a retired security officer from the State Department.

Advice to all, drew your gun quickly shoot and ask questions later otherwise this is what they could do to you if they get the draw on you, they tortured this couple for 2 days then murdered them :

Christopher Newsom, 23 and Channon Christian, 21 were on a date in Christian’s Toyota 4-Runner on the evening of January 6, 2007. At some point along their route, they were approached by four black men demanding possession of their vehicle. It’s unclear whether or not the couple complied with the request, or attempted to flee. At some point in the struggle the attempted carjacking turned to something more sinister. The perpetrators kidnapped the couple and took them back to a residence belonging to one of the four kidnappers. Upon arrival Newsom and Christian were restrained. Autopsy records indicate Newsom was sodomized, sexually mutilated and then shot several times. His body was then doused with gasoline and burned near railroad tracks running behind the house. His girlfriend, Channon Christian was forced to witness her boyfriend’s torture and subsequent murder. Police believe over the next two days, Christian was repeatedly gang-raped by these four thugs. Some reports indicate she was also sexually mutilated before her death. To cover any “evidence,” these savages poured drain cleaner down Christian’s throat before strangling her and disposing of her body in a large kitchen trashcan.
Yeah, sane people, real men, question this kind of deed.

When the SHTF, we will have many more of these incidents. In some cases, nice, good looking kids will be killed while looking for food, and in other cases, a van will pull up with 3 guys with ARs looking for food and whatever else they can find. Of course, the media puts out a story of a kook recluse with a wild looking mug shot and two beautiful looking teens.
If someone breaks into your house, you shouldn’t have look up castle law cases before reacting. And shouting out to the intruder, “watch out I have a gun” will give away your position and might be followed by a few rounds in your direction.
But that being said, this guy sure had a sick streak. Finishing them off and not calling the police right away will not win him any points.
He thought this sounded better than whatever it was that he actually did, that’s the amazing thing.
I couldn’t begin to guess what that might have been, but serious nuttery is not at all out of the question.
The criminal got close, Grandma threw up her hands knocking the gun into the air and Grandpa caught the pistol and put the dude on the ground in a front leaning rest until the cops showed up.
Here's a State Department security officer who's barely 62 years of age ~ he took these kids down in a NY second ~ then he killed them.

Self defense is what you do to save you or others. Killing because you are mad, or to enforce your non-bible supported worldview, of death for a theft is simply murder. Life is better when you can avoid murder.

It’s a challenge to train Marines and cops to the point that they will enter a room where rifle fire is happening. And we are to believe this 18 year old girl just does it without even calling out for the guy who just went in ahead of her? And then she laughs when hit in the gut or lower with a 223 from a few feet away.

Since no one disagrees with shooting a burglar if you feel in danger, then why are you pretending that is what this thread is about?
