Saw it over the weekend. Better than the original, but still a stretch.
Has anyone tried to rent or buy the original 1984 Red Dawn? It is like the film does not exist. As far as I can tell it is only available via special order. I wanted my kids to see the original before they saw the new version.
This has got to be one of the dumbest movies ever. At least in Red Dawn 1 we were overrun by a powerful country,,,the USSR. But North Korea? Sheesh.
When are we going to see a “Blue Dawn” movie?
The plot would be marxist enemies within that attempt to infiltrate into power by calling themselves progressives...
Sounds like fiction, but I think it might be plausible to movie audiences...
I believe the invading force was supposed to be Chinese, until political correctness forced N.Korea to the fore.
> Besides, the original film cast Cuba as the invading force not the Soviet Union, as is commonly reported so dont talk to me about preposterous.
That’s not accurate. The Soviets were the primary opponent, with it being mentioned that Cubans posed as illegals that sneaked across the border to sabotage.
The original got the same reviews from the same leftie critics.
I LOVED the original. Saw this over the weekend. Didn’t like it.
I know I am showing my age, but I remember movie critics referring to the first Red Dawn as; preposterous, ridiculous, silly and my favorite, “A right wing Reagan voter’s fantasy.”
North Korea can barely feed its army, they certainly don’t have the means to project force halfway around the world - even with “help” they would be entirely ineffective.
Did not care for all the profanity...otherwise pretty good action...pretty much the same plot as the previous one.
The film is a silly idea. The communists have already taken over, without firing a shot.
Too bad they didn’t have the guts to go with a realistic opposing force - like foaming-at-the-mouth muslims.
“North Korea only invades the Pacific Northwest”
Why bother to invade? All they need to do is sail into Seattle and tie-up at the first pier they come to. They’ll be welcomed with open arms.
At what point shall we expect the approach of danger? By what means shall we fortify against it?-- Shall we expect some transatlantic military giant, to step the Ocean, and crush us at a blow? Never!--All the armies of Europe, Asia and Africa combined, with all the treasure of the earth (our own excepted) in their military chest; with a Buonaparte for a commander, could not by force, take a drink from the Ohio, or make a track on the Blue Ridge, in a trial of a thousand years. At what point then is the approach of danger to be expected? I answer, if it ever reach us, it must spring up amongst us. It cannot come from abroad. If destruction be our lot, we must ourselves be its author and finisher. As a nation of freemen, we must live through all time, or die by suicide.
- Abraham Lincoln, Address Before the Young Men's Lyceum of Springfield, Illinois, January 27, 1838
I believe this was the opening description in the first one.
—SOVIET UNION SUFFERS WORST WHEAT HARVEST IN 55 YEARS.
—LABOR AND FOOD RIOTS IN POLAND. SOVIET TROOPS INVADE.
—CUBA AND NICARAGUA REACH TROOP STRENGTH GOALS OF 500,000. EL SALVADORE AND HONDURAS FALL.
—GREEN PARTY GAINS CONTROL OF WEST GERMAN PARLIAMENT. DEMADNS WITHDRAWAL OF NUCLEAR WEAPONS FROM EUROPEAN SOIL.
—MEXICO PLUNGED INTO REVOLUTION.
—NATO DISSOLVES. UNITED STATES STANDS ALONE.
It was on Netflix a few weeks ago. May still be.
