Saw it over the weekend. Better than the original, but still a stretch.

Has anyone tried to rent or buy the original 1984 Red Dawn? It is like the film does not exist. As far as I can tell it is only available via special order. I wanted my kids to see the original before they saw the new version.

This has got to be one of the dumbest movies ever. At least in Red Dawn 1 we were overrun by a powerful country,,,the USSR. But North Korea? Sheesh.

When are we going to see a “Blue Dawn” movie?

The plot would be marxist enemies within that attempt to infiltrate into power by calling themselves progressives...
Sounds like fiction, but I think it might be plausible to movie audiences...

I believe the invading force was supposed to be Chinese, until political correctness forced N.Korea to the fore.

> Besides, the original film cast Cuba as the invading force – not the Soviet Union, as is commonly reported – so don’t talk to me about “preposterous.”

That’s not accurate. The Soviets were the primary opponent, with it being mentioned that Cubans posed as illegals that sneaked across the border to sabotage.

In the original it was Cuban, Honduran, and Nicaraguan forces coming up through Mexico. The initial soldiers invading were Hispanic. The Soviets came in later and followed their initial push after strategic strikes that crippled the US.

From the article:

For starters, the movie explains that North Korea doesn’t invade without “help,” and that they used a cyber attack on the American financial system and an electromagnetic pulse weapon, or EMP, against the U.S. infrastructure. Furthermore, North Korea only invades the Pacific Northwest, while other enemies attack elsewhere. It’s not really that implausible.

Besides, the original film cast Cuba as the invading force – not the Soviet Union, as is commonly reported – so don’t talk to me about “preposterous.”

The invaders were supposed to be the Chinese. However, the film makers wanted to sell this movie to the Chinese market so that had to pull it from distribution and remake it so that the Chinese invaders were replaced with North Koreans.

If it's preposterous it is because of the kowtowing of greedy "capitalists" to the Chicoms.

Sad. Truly sad.

I would have made the movie like this: Communists overtake the Democrat party and slowly change the demographics of the country, then they overtake the Republican party which allows a foreign born Islamic communist to be unconstitutionally elected as POTUS and then elected again to a 2nd term in which he further erodes the constitution and before you know it Sharia law is instituted and this is where the Wolverines fight back. But who would ever believe it? Ridiculous plot!

And the Chinese were the “good guys” in the first one.

North Korea has about as much chance of invading the US as the Duchy of Grand Fenwick.

“We’ve got 800 million screaming Chinese on our side.”

“Aren’t there a billion Chinese?”

“Not anymore.”

They also talk about England getting into the war. I imagine Canada got involved wince the USSR used their territory to stage.

The war was made out to be massively worldwide.

I know I am showing my age, but I remember movie critics referring to the first Red Dawn as; preposterous, ridiculous, silly and my favorite, “A right wing Reagan voter’s fantasy.”
