New York Rep. Peter King and Sen. Lindsey Graham said Sunday they would break the pledge and accept tax changes to generate more revenue to curb the trillion-dollar federal deficit.
Their statements followed a similar one Thursday by Georgia Republican Sen. Saxby Chambliss.
I agree entirely with Saxby Chambliss, King said on NBCs Meet the Press. A pledge you signed 20 years ago, 18 years ago, is for that Congress. The world has changed, and the economic situation is different.
The New York congressman said he was opposed to tax increases but that everything should be on the table when President Obama, House Speaker John Boehner and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid try to broker a deal.
I'm not going to prejudge it, and I'm just saying we should not be taking ironclad positions, King added. I have faith that John Boehner can put together a good package.

Once again, and I’ll say it slowly. We have plenty of tax money. We need less spending.
More congressional Republicans break tax pledge for sake of looming fiscal crisis
Of course they did, along with their phony candidate from Massachusetts, that even the youth smelled right through.
Two Federal Parties.
Anyone who is STILL in Congress 20 years later after signing a pledge has been here too long. I agree that they sign it and the subject, but 20 years is way past the expiration date for Congress. Vote all of them out. They are too interested in being part of the club than being for the people who vote them in.
Feed the Beast. The Beast will not be denied and its hunger is infinite. Those who now say their pledge is obsolete are putting themselves on a target list for defeat, but their greater loyalty is to the ruling hegemony than the people they represent.
Yes indeed. It’s a pity that we can’t get any of these politicians to take a no-deficit-spending pledge.
The RINO GOP establishment just keeps begging for a third party.
Great comments and so very true. They think the voter will
forget their disloyalty to the people they represent.
as we knew they would - just sayin
They should go for it and be part of Obama’s next failed plan.
Geeze, more sellouts. Do Republicans want a third party?? They’ll get one sooner by helping Democrats raise taxes while spending increases!
Good. Let’s hand over more money and let them piss it away.
After 20 years of begging for campaign money, schmoozing with lobbyists for special interest groups, and flirting with young interns no doubt most of these politicians have accumulated a large FBI file. It may be each of these principled politicians is having pressure applied. Better to endure the wrath of some conservative constituents for a few days than be resigning in disgrace tomorrow when the FBI file gets dropped off at the New York Times or CBS News.
The fix is in. We will have higher taxes and no spending reform. The reality is, the Republicans in the House can change the game today by refusing to appropriate money for green energy, Obamaphones, billions in aid to Uganda, not to mention wasteful entitlement programs. The fact they don’t tells me their real masters are satisfied with the status quo.
I notice there is no talk on the Democrat side about compromise and flexibility. Seems like we are being set up for a total capitulation.
Now, they stay for the pay and to not make any waves!
FU all on both sides of the aisle. A pox on all of your houses!

If the General is evil and corrupt... you can bet his masters in the house and senate are far beyond evil and corrupt. The entire government is a sham and is based upon false elections and stolen campaigns.

Cowardly, lying GOP-E weasels sell out the country yet again.
A close friend, who ran for Congress in CA as a Libertarian, predicted last Spring the rats were poised to consolidate their power there. If that happened he feared the rest of the nation was predetermined to follow. His prediction is on track.
Adios GOP. The divorce was not on friendly terms and the rest of the family, our republic will suffer horribly.
Yep. The feds get enough revenue now, they just spend way too much.
