There are already 8 million Americans working part time who want to work full time. It seems likely that number will skyrocket once Obamacare is implemented.
An Obamacare supporter is as stupid as the Democrats who passed the legislation in the first place:
********
When my better half told me that her boss was thinking about cutting all full-time employees to part time in order to avoid the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act insurance requirements (for full-time employees), my initial response was, "Surely the federal government wouldn't have allowed such a blatantly obvious way of getting out of the requirement." But that turned out to be false.
In fact, major names in the service/hospitality industry (e.g., Denny's, Olive Garden, Red Lobster and Longhorn Steakhouse) are already in the process of going to a part-time employee schedule for all employees. Thus, as a very possible consequence of the short-sightedness of the Affordable Care Act legislators, more people will be working two jobs to make ends meet.
Yet acquiring a second part-time job may be an impossibility for a large number of service/hospitality employees. Most part-time employees in this industry do not work full eight-hour shifts in a day. Rather, they work five to six days a week for four to six hours at a time during the busiest hours. Thus, it may not be possible for part-time workers to work more than one job, because the days they will be available to work will have been constrained by the part-time job they are trying to supplement.
The problems, however, may not end there. Because more people will be forced into part-time positions and into working multiple jobs, then less people will have the time to go to college, have benefits like vacation and sick days,

Christians will be flogged in the streets and their churches burned down
I didn't listen or believe because I just didn't want to. I only hardened my resolve believing that just through my mind bending willpower I could withstand their onslaught, especially after the conservative landslide of 1994 at all levels across the nation.
Well, I guess I won't bore you with the rest of the story, cause I got creamed by a host of things like "The Year Of The Woman," the paycheck protection Prop 226 which the unions defeated much as they just did with Prop 32. And the woman that took me out of politics just happened to be the secretary of the local AFCSME government employees union with their unmatched ground game and "volunteer" phone bank and precinct walkers.
I still don't think we're doomed. It's just gonna take longer than I'm gonna live because we conservatives have to work for a living long after age 65 if we're self-employed and we just can't take time out to attend all those political and regulatory hearings away from our enterprise, or we'll go broke and there is no longer any such thing as a "poor farm!!!"
Perhaps doctors should be called something else. Their name should be changed to reflect their new status. Instead of "doctors" we should start calling them "Obamaperks."
"Gotta bad headache, made an appointment to see my Obamaperk. He had an opening in March."
We are moving to a part-time worker world. It won’t be long, if indeed the time isn’t now, that having a full time job will be only for the 1%.
Companies have been moving full time employees into part time work since Obama was elected the first time, and the financial meltdown occurred. That MO has moved into hyper drive since the election.
Don’t forget all of the 401Ks that are involved.
My grandchildren have part time jobs, and they are very grateful for them. Usually, they are taken by adults with families, or seniors, who are in dire straights.
It’s not going to be pretty but, sometimes, one has to hit rock bottom to get the desire and motivation to change things back.
I would love to! I need to work at least part time though. I’ve been working full time since I was 17 and I am very insecure without a job. I know it doesn’t sound like it to people in other states but I currently make $21 an hour from a non-union company, my benefits are very reasonable through my employer (we even have pet insurance), and with the hours I work I often make time and a half or double time. This is an excellent wage for rural Tennessee. My problem is that if I apply for work elsewhere and they see what I make now and what I would make with them they immediately write me off as some kind of nut. LOL I would love it if my employer would offer part time work but as much as we work it probably won’t happen.
Than I guess that either the Founders had tons more leisure time to set up local and state Committees of Safety or they were more committed. On the other hand, maybe the commies and fascists are more committed to enslaving and killing us, and we need to reserve a spot on the leftist plantation.
I’m just not understanding the gloom and doom movement or the surrender monkey parades here on FR. I guess it’s more important to get that kitchen addition done after work than spend a couple of hours each month taking on the commies at the local county board.
Hell, I always wanted to fish for trophy muskies in northern Wisconsin. I guess I’ll do that. BTW, I’m not questioning your commitment. I’m simply on another overall, general rant. Phuk it all. Come and join me, Wasp, before all the SHTF preppers fish out the lakes.
Really?
You are a genius!!!
All w have to do is shorten everybodys work week to 10 hours and there will be more hiring!!!
If it’s the only way I can finally get a job, I’ll take it.
Even 10 hours would be an improvement.
I just had to stop for a breath...
Well, so far I’ve got me, onona, and maybe you to sign up on the northern Wisconsin musky tour. I’ll need to work on Lancey. I think he’s shy, but he’ll get into the musky fishing mood after we feed him a six pack of Milwaukee Schlitz and a bottle of Hennessey brandy. We shall see.
Holy Crap; I am ready !!
The last time I was in Wisconsin was with the Marines in ‘85. My battalion was at McCoy and I stepped on some kind of bee hive and got stung about 15 times. My buddies were laughing at me as I ran around like a cartoon, slapping myself.
Anyway, we went on leave and tried to get a hotel in Madison. At two places the desk clerk took one look at us and just slowly shook his head. We took the hint and got out of there, ended up in a place called Fun to Lick. Gorgeous place. I liked Wisconsin.
FRegards,
LH
Good grief! Do they still make Schlitz? That was the biggest sellin beer in the midwest when I grew up there!!!
I'm too danged impatient to sit there and let any danged fish hang it's lower lip over my hook on the fish's time table, but the fellowship with the brews sound like a blast except I'd probably fall overboard. As you can see by my last post, I ALWAYS go overboard when fishing for votes, etc., etc., etc...
Oh wait! HOLD THE PHONE!! I just remembered... The fish that's eatin all our trout is Northern Pike, I think!!!
Well this was about my first time livin anytime away from home as I was about 13 and me hearin that guy dyin in that crash really shook me up.
I always thot that place was called Fun do Lack! What's up with that? Eh?
I learned that "Eh?" stuff from drivin through British Columbia to AK and back this summer. When I was up there for the summer vacation in '57 they allowed us to "snag" salmon only for that one time summer!
So I guess, to wrap this up, I musta turned against drinkin much of anything because of that poor bastard layin on the creek bank dyin most of the night in Columbus WI. And the other thing, to put the ribbon on alla this, is that after snaggin salmon in AK rivers, I got spoiled about waitin fer fish ta bite me hook, ok?
Hay dave,
We're tryin ta plan a trip to Medford, WI and beyond this summer on our way to the boundary national recreation area up outta Duluth, MN in our RV after we leave CO Springs on May 31st. But I don't know if yer any good at rondayvuin, or not. (a little phonetic typin for ya there)
We're prolly too old an phat fer you to put up with fer more than us layin an eyeball on ya (yuck)! Are any of them "preppers" doctors? If so, maybe we should look 'em up and challenge 'em to some doctor prepper poker, ya think? Eh? Maybe?
Then I wish you well in this brave new world that you seem so willing to accept.
Not willing. Resigned is more like it. You go 5 years without a paycheck and see just how desperate you can get.
Sorry to hear that, I truly am. The destruction of this country continues unabated.
Is the answer really 10 hr a week employment? Unlikely. The only way out of this is allowing the collapse to happen.
Prayers for you and yours.
Thanks.
