Boehner comments show tough road ahead for "fiscal cliff" talks

WASHINGTON, Nov 22 (Reuters) - New comments from top Republican lawmaker John Boehner slamming health care reforms illustrate how hard it will be for Washington to reach a deficit reduction deal when talks resume next week, analysts said on Thursday.

President Barack Obama and the U.S. Congress will begin negotiating next week on a plan that could avert tax hikes and spending cuts set to begin in January that economists worry could push the U.S. economy over the "fiscal cliff" and into recession.

Boehner did not explicitly mention the "fiscal cliff" talks in an opinion piece published in the Cincinnati Enquirer on Wednesday. But he argued the nation cannot afford the costs of Obama's 2010 health care reform law, given the United State's sluggish economy and massive $16 trillion debt.

"That's why I've been clear that the law has to stay on the table as both parties discuss ways to solve our nation's massive debt challenge," said Boehner, who is a key player in the talks.

Boehner's comments show it won't be easy to reach a deal on the thorny tax and spending issues, said Greg Valliere, chief political strategist at Potomac Research Group in Washington.

HorseFeathers!!! Why is it always up to the GOP to "compromise" with Husein the statist. He's taken tax cuts off the table, won't negotiate on 0bamacare or do anything to avert the fiscal cliff, yet it's always the GOP who are obstructionist. He acts like he has a decisive mandate when in reality he skated in by a few percentage points because he won places like Philly with 108% of the vote!!!! (Nothing to see there, move along....)

None of this matters though because the MSM acts as if the community organizer won in a landslide, and sadly so do Boehner and the GOP.

I'm getting to the point where I no longer even debate with liberals, I hope 0boober gets all he wants and we go right over the cliff.

It’s just a matter of time now. Obama fundamentally transformed America, as promised.

On the plus side, he may have converted a slow, 50-year decline, into a rapid five-year collapse, resulting in the death of socialism. That’s my hope.

Never thought I’d live to see this.

It’ll be easy to reach a deal alright.

What won’t be easy is how to position that smoke and mirrors so as to fool the stock, bond and currency traders into thinking something of substance has transpired.

The American public, well, they’re easily fooled so no worries there.

Considering that O was re-elected for no good reasons and Bohners history of negotiations with Dems have been disastrous so far I cant helping thinking :

Lets go off the cliff, to hell with it. If GWB was responsible for the bad economy at the end of his term then why try to save O from his? Let him worry about his legacy.

Anyone see a good ending for us here?

The one silver lining of Obama winning, besides not having Romney as President, is it gives us the opportunity to have another huge midterm, take the Senate and start 2016 as the favorites.

It won’t happen automatically GOP must not F up.

I predict a tourniquet will be applied at the last day, but in the long run it won’t matter, for the patient will still bleed to death. When, is anybody’s guess. The GOP “leadership” will surely fail us again and again.

He was right. I finally figured that out after a few decades.

I tell my wife not to bother.

Just prepare, and let them “return to their vomit.”

RE :”The one silver lining of Obama winning, besides not having Romney as President, is it gives us the opportunity to have another huge midterm, take the Senate and start 2016 as the favorites. It won’t happen automatically GOP must not F up.”

Here are a few basic questions I have been pondering:

How does Obama lose? Bad economy?

How do Republicans help this along without getting the blame?

If GWB got responsibility for the bad economy in 2008 ( not totally unreasonable) then should Bohner get it if it goes bad the next few years or Obama?? (OK, a rhetorical question) .

One important factor I noticed between 2011 (to now) and 2007 to 2008: Polls showed that most Americans thought that Republicans were in control of congress in 2007 and 2008, but most Americans think that Republicans are in control of congress the past two years too. Dems wanted it this way.
This is something totally missed by Republicans (but not by me!).
Dems know that if they don't have absolute power then they need to convince voters that its the Rs who are in charge of the unpopular split congress, not them. Republicans are not that smart.

By 2008, the Sheeple had already soured on Bush, so it wasn’t hard to convince them to pin everything bad - including a worldwide real estate bubble meltdown - on him.

We need to jump over the fiscal cliff. We need to deleverage our debt below the 77% debt-to-GDP on our soveriegn and get out from under the 350% debt-to-GDP on the TCMDO.

This means spending cuts AND more taxes, both of which are in the "fiscal cliff."

Nothing is going to stop the long-wave contraction; the tussling up on Capital Hill is fiddlers playing and rearranging chairs as they try to pretend they didn't hit an iceberg.
