Wal-Mart workers plan walk-out to protest Black Friday hours

Federal labor officials said Tuesday they don’t expect to decide before Thursday on whether to seek an injunction on behalf of Wal-Mart Stores Inc. to stop a union-backed group from encouraging worker walk-outs that are expected to culminate Friday. That’s the traditional start of the holiday shopping season.

The world’s largest retailer, based in Bentonville, Ark., on Friday filed an unfair labor practice charge with the National Labor Relations Board against the United Food and Commercial Workers International Union. It said the demonstrations organized by union-backed OUR Walmart threaten to disrupt its business and intimidate customers and other store workers.

Meanwhile, OUR Walmart filed its own charge on Tuesday with the labor board. It cited attempts by Wal-Mart to deter workers from participating in what the group believes to be legally protected walkouts.

By all means let's hit our employer on the day they go the furthest to hit their revenue numbers. That will show them!

Only a union idiot could come up with that reasoning. Some day someone will RICO their azz. For that's what it is.

Union or not, retailers don’t need to treat their workers this way.

I hope the jerks who do walk out don’t need a doctor, a fireman, a restaurant worker, a convenience store clerk, etc. on their “day off”.

Yeah its horrible the way they hired my sister nearly 20 years ago and kept giving her paychecks so she was able to buy a house.

Wal-Mart.....shut the friggin store down for good!

You will not know the difference, a pain in the ass will be removed, and it WILL send a message to the disgruntled workers that they better have a real grievance before striking...

“Yeah its horrible the way they hired my sister nearly 20 years ago and kept giving her paychecks so she was able to buy a house. “

I’m sure sales and paychecks will still be made when workers arrive at 6 am instead of midnight on thanksgiving evening. Some services and businesses require it for the good of society, but a typical retailer...nope.

Knowing my sister, she’s probably grabbing all the overtime she can. I know that’s what I always did when I was still at the factory.

What way? Requiring that they work on holidays? Try working in a kitchen. Every single holiday is a big day and everyone gets to work.

Cry me a river. If I'm getting paid, I'll work the days my employer requires or I'll go elsewhere.

Yea, I’d be doing the same thing frankly. I miss hourly for that reason alone, at least in the day it was worth double time on holidays...don’t know if businesses still do that or not.
