A new chart produced by Republicans staffers on the Senate Budget Committee shows food stamp enrollment continuing to increase even as the unemployment rate goes down.
From October 2009 to October 2012 the unemployment rate has declined from 10.2 percent to 7.9 percent. In that same time frame, nearly ten million new recipients have been added to the food stamp rolls, according to government data analyzed by the Republican committee staff.
“Spending on the food stamp program has increased every single year since 2000, and a record number of individuals now receive the benefit. For instance, food stamp enrollment has climbed by nearly 10 million individuals since October 2009 — but the unemployment rate declined 2 percentage points from its peak level over that time,” the Republican Budget Committee staff explained in a statement.

This is a headline like “Crime rate declines even as prison population soars.” The most obvious explanation is that discouraged workers have chosen to rely on public benefits to get by. As they stop looking for work, the unemployment rate declines.
In the “new normal” economy of Baraq, all the 29ers will likely be food stamp eligible.
I looked up New Jersey (because of the Mayor Booker food stamp challenge thread) and the gross income limit for a family of 4 is $3400/month to qualify.
That’s because you are considered ‘employed’ if you work just ONE HOUR DOING ANYTHING LIKE BABYSITTING OR CUTTING GRASS for money during the week of the 11th of the month.
So you could work one hour, that one week and for that month, you are considered ‘employed.’
I have the paperwork filled out. I have the supporting documents. I can’t quite bring myself to actually apply.

The US government is advertising the Food Stamp program in Mexico !!!!!
Think of it as helping boost Obama’s negative numbers.
You can always buy food with it for charities or prepping.

What is the documented relationship between unemployment and food stamps? There are many people who are working that are still qualified for food stamps.
So, to repeat my question - what is the documented relationship between the two?
If you need them then i say YOU GO AHEAD AND SIGN UP! Why should the illegals and the welfare mamas who have never worked or added to this great nation be the only ones to get help? People from OUR side have been suffering too! usually through no fault of our own but because we have had a do nothing but damage president and his cronies thrust upon us. We have lost our jobs too. we have lost our homes too. we have seen our equity plunge and our families have suffered every bit as much. Don’t you feel ashamed!
I know that in my mind, in my heart it still feels like failure and is shameful.
If you were an employer of low skilled labor..why would you hire full time when a part time employee with a family gets food stamps and free health care. Let the Govt pay your personnel costs. Then the employee can further supplement his income by working of the books elsewhere and receive a earned income tax credit. Makes being and employer a lot cheaper.
