Florida Rep. Allen West — the tea party pugilist and face of the class of House Republicans that stormed to power two years ago — conceded Tuesday to 29-year-old construction executive Patrick Murphy in one of the nation’s highest-profile congressional races.

After two weeks of battle with St. Lucie County elections officials — and a recount of early votes that wound up extending Murphy’s lead — West acknowledged that he couldn’t surmount his 1,904-vote, or 0.58 percent, deficit. That difference was just outside the 0.5 percent threshold to automatically trigger a recount of all votes.

Polls indicated that Romney was going to win the election. The economy is close to Great Depression era conditions, and unemployment is almost as high as when Obama entered office. Economic conditions became so dire after Obama took office it prompted the rise of an entire new movement, the Tea Party.
Presidents rarely win reelection when the economy is in the tank.
So how did Romney lose a race that numerous reputable polls and pundits predicted would be an easy win, based on historical patterns?

I’ve often been amazed at how much the American psyche is focused on patriotism and how every sporting event, community event and political event focuses on honouring the troops, but how difficult it often is for veterans to be elected. Bush Sr., Bob Dole and John McCain were defeated by young liberal punks who loathed the military and gave no respect to the military service of their opponents. There’s a disconnect here and I can’t quite figure out why military service doesn’t seem to hold any sway with voters.

The Florida Republican shenanigans regarding West really ticked me off. For the Republicans to redistrict him is verging on the criminal. The Repubs also did a nasty redistricting of republican rep Tom Price (Region 6, Ga.). Price, a very conservative candidate, had a great campaign and won his seat, regardless of the nasty remapping.

Our biggest enemy of conservatism is the Republican Party itself. Get out the TEApots, let's have a Party!!
