Santa Monica Forced To CANCEL Christmas After Atheist Campaigner Launches Protest Against Town's Holiday Decorations 18 November 2012
A California town has been forced to axe its Christmas decorations after an atheist protester objected to a 14-piece religious display in the town centre and set up his own booths mocking Christianity and preventing church groups from celebrating the holidays.
Officials in Santa Monica, California have snuffed the city's holiday tradition this year rather than intervening in the religious fight - prompting churches which have set up a 14-scene Christian diorama every year for decades to sue over freedom of speech violations.
Their attorney will ask a federal judge on Monday to allow them to reproduce the depiction of Jesus' birth, while the city aims to have the case throwen out.

'It's a sad, sad commentary on the attitudes of the day that a nearly 60-year-old Christmas tradition is now having to hunt for a home, something like our saviuor had to hunt for a place to be born because the world was not interested,' said Hunter Jameson, head of the nonprofit Santa Monica Nativity Scene Committee that is suing.

I’m a jew and I love Christmas! The decorations, lights, music! Oh, the music!
A few years ago their family put up a manger scene in front of their house during Advent. Their neighbors, who teach at our local university, approached them a few days after the Manger went up, and requested that they take it down as they found it offensive.
The family went out and bought another Creche and put it up as well.

I suggest Santa Monica change its name to Monica so as not to offend atheists. Better yet, change the name the name to Monica Lewinsky, because the city is basically on its knees.

It’s about destroying the cultural icon that is Christmas. Christmas today in the USA has few religions overtones. It’s a holiday for family and kids. It’s warm feelings of kindness and that all is right with the world.
But because the word “Christ” is in the word, the left has got to destroy it.

I don’t know if it will be because they will be “offended”, I am thinking more like it will be because you don’t want your home fire bombed by these nutjobs. It’s who the left really is. Just look how the random acts of terrorism conducted on peoples political signs on there yards or there cars. That is where things will likely go as we descend further into the moral abyss.
It IS “Christ”mas, after all; NOT “Atheist”mas.
What is sad is that one person can stir up this much sh*t and nothing the majority wants can be done any more.

I would have to ask those people if they were so insecure that they wouldn’t handle a little freedom of speech? Really, do they want to live in a country where no one has belief in God? Maybe they should move to another country rather than take our God out of our lives.

Somehow the atheists who want symbols of Christianity removed from public property kind of reminds me of the mentality of the Islamic extremists. There is no tolerance for anything except their own point of view. Come hell or high water they are going to get THEIR way.

Santa Monica wasn’t “forced” to cancel Christmas. They gave in, plain and simple.
