Santa Monica Forced To CANCEL Christmas After Atheist Campaigner Launches Protest Against Town's Holiday Decorations 18 November 2012
A California town has been forced to axe its Christmas decorations after an atheist protester objected to a 14-piece religious display in the town centre and set up his own booths mocking Christianity and preventing church groups from celebrating the holidays.
Officials in Santa Monica, California have snuffed the city's holiday tradition this year rather than intervening in the religious fight - prompting churches which have set up a 14-scene Christian diorama every year for decades to sue over freedom of speech violations.
Their attorney will ask a federal judge on Monday to allow them to reproduce the depiction of Jesus' birth, while the city aims to have the case throwen out.
Banned: A Nativity scene is seen with a protective fence along Santa Monica's shore last year, a scene which according to the city will not re-appear this year
'It's a sad, sad commentary on the attitudes of the day that a nearly 60-year-old Christmas tradition is now having to hunt for a home, something like our saviuor had to hunt for a place to be born because the world was not interested,' said Hunter Jameson, head of the nonprofit Santa Monica Nativity Scene Committee that is suing.

I would not expect the People’s Republic of Santa Monica to put up a fight.
In ancient America (1950), that jackass would have been cited for breach of the peace.....
The day is coming when Christians won’t be able to put decorations on their own lawns because they offend passerbys. Or if they have a tree in their house, they will have to keep the drapes closed so atheists can’t see it and be offended. Sound crazy? No. It’s just a matter of time.
In that precise ancient time, my family used to travel to Santa Monica every other year for Christmas.
Simple enough to have live nativity characters walk around the towne center saying, “God be with you.” Can’t arrest someone from walking around public streets.
Saint Monica, pray for us.
I hit post too soon. The CHRISTmas lights on Wilshire Blvd were beautiful and there Nativity scenes almost every where.
We had the same problem in in a local town over forty years ago when ONE CRANK shut down the local Christmas and
Easter pageants.
Interesting that when that crank finally died in terror, he called on God for forgiveness of his actions.
Looks like atheists are taking on the role of America’s Muslims.
Atheists of good will should claim the atheist display does not represent the mentality of atheists and demand it be taken down.
If atheists want an atheist religious holiday, they should have one. But they should not be religious freedom and virtue speech wreckers. Mind their own business. Respect the first amendment or you will lose it along with the Christians you harrass and hate. Idiots.
They’re never happy. They get their prescious muslim in the white house another four years but they’re just as mean and vicious as ever.
Curious about the unspoken thoughts...
They’re just taking the slogan “Forward” literally.
Well, I’m a different kind of Christian. I pray for liberals....to jump off a cliff. Why are you so afraid of these lib pukes?
Just wait till the guy in the WH puts Holder on the SC and those with super ACLU (Marxist) credentials. I guess the 71% Hispanics, 68% 18year-30 year olds and the 60% single women who voted for Obama and those union folks in PA, OH, and WI would love what’s coming
This situation should be viewed in the same light as the Admin’s recent attack on the 1st Amendment regarding “the film”. Not one cucker from the ACLU nor Hollywood stood up to defend the notorious filmmaker. But in this Santa Monica case, too many of these Christian hating operations are all too eager to quell Christian speech.
It’s time these attacks by haters of Christianity come to end — legally of course.
Christmas is celebrated at home, by Christians. Why bother with this non-sensical fighting with athiests? We’re not going to win. F’em.
First of all, you can’t “cancel Christmas.” Witness the Whos.
Secondly, put the displays on two hundred private front lawns. See what Mr. Atheist does about that. Don’t worry about City Hall.
