CCAC cutting hours to avoid health-care mandate

Community College of Allegheny County will trim hours for about 400 of its part-time workers to avoid having to provide them with health insurance coverage, the school's president, Alex Johnson, said Thursday. Mr. Johnson told members of Allegheny County Council that complying with the requirements of the federal Affordable Care Act, informally known as Obamacare, would have cost CCAC $6 million annually for part-timers who have been working at least 30 hours per week. Affected employees include both adjunct faculty and maintenance workers. CCAC has an annual operating budget of about $110 million and is facing reductions in county support for 2013 that could be as large as $2.3 million. Mr. Johnson advised council of the plan to cut part-timers' hours as part of CCAC efforts to keep its costs under control.

I have some faith that the Benghazi incidentsecond coming of Jesus Christ may very well remove Obama from office, more so than anyone pursuing NBC, social security numbers or his massive voter fraud. As for the Benghazi incident, it will make for some spectacular news coverage on Fox News and a few other places not totally in bed with the left wing. At best, it might even result in a majority vote for impeachment. But you will never get 67 senators (or even a weak plurality) ever vote to remove the fuhrer from office.

pretty much every retail-level, “low-wage” business is going to have to cut to part-time to be able to stay in business

Yep. No accurate way to enumerate the hours and jobs lost, though.

AFAIK, a 28 hr/week employee looks exactly like a 40 hr/week employee to the BLS.

For that matter, 10 28 hr/week employees looks MUCH BETTER than 7 full time employees!

Bingo. Factories will run two 5-1/2 hour shifts rather than one 8 hour shift.
No lunch breaks.
No health insurance.
No...

Maybe they will also learn a lesson from the demise of Twentieth Century Twinkies Company.

If you mean “No union” I don’t think they will be allowed that option by Washington.

I don’t know ans Mitt was not my first choice but he was a lot better than Bammy. Then again, playing Devil’s Advocate, if we are too far gone to pull this out economically, having it blow up with Bammy holding the bag would be great karma. I love alternate history where we play “what-if” so a Romney Presidency would fall under that now.

As far as I know, it's applicable to the Fort Worth area which as nineteen stores. I don't see why they would not implement it across the board though.

You have to wonder how many people are using Obama as a scapegoat for poor management.
I mean, traditionally layoffs always occur every November.
Because it’s an election year, it seems to give some people a place to put the blame for their business.
I reckon if Romney won, there would be a whole lot of libs who had to layoff people because of “Romney” and not thier business acumen..

Thanks. BTW, you live near Pittsburgh like I do? Right now, I've been going "balls out" job hunting and it is tough out there. I do understand it is up to each of us to make it although there is one thing governments can do to create jobs, get out of the way. BTW, I was on my ham radio today and I talked to a fellow ham who is looking for work too.
