CNN) -- David Petraeus' resignation was not linked to the September attack that killed four Americans in Benghazi, Libya, and he never passed classified information to the woman he was having an affair with, the former CIA director told an HLN journalist.
Petraeus, in conversations with HLN's Kyra Phillips, confirmed to her what his supporters have been saying about ongoing scandal.
"In our first conversation," Phillips said Thursday, Petraeus "had told me he had engaged in something dishonorable. He sought to do the honorable thing in response -- and that was to come forward. He was very clear that he screwed up terribly ... even felt fortunate to have a wife who is far better than he deserves."
Phillips, who knows Petraeus from several interviews, initially reached out to him to express shock at the news of the affair that derailed a highly decorated career in the military and CIA. Among other things, Petraeus said he has not talked with Paula Broadwell, his biographer and woman he admitted an affair with, since the scandal broke.
"He insisted to me that he has never passed classified information to Paula Broadwell," Phillips said. "He said this has nothing to do with Benghazi, and he wants to testify. He will testify."

How the heck did she/broadwell get the classified documents? If he didn’t give ‘em to her, then he was negligent enough w/ the documents under his control to leave them for her to obtain.
His judgment was impaired the minute he was thinking with his genitals.

For God’s sake, sir... come clean. You excelled in so many areas during your illustrious military career, culminating in the surge operation that literally saved Operation Iraqi Freedom from certain failure.
Lift this burden from your heart and your soul. Look deep within yourself and come to realize this evil man for whom you lie and obfuscate is nothing more than a messenger and imp of Satan.
Please... reach inward and grasp onto what remains of your love of the country you so honorably served in uniform and know the truth shall set you free.
No good will come of drawing in a cloak of protection over Barack Obama. Loyalty to your COUNTRY comes first!

In my opinion, the Obama administration sees Petraeus as the one guy who could bring them all down if he goes public with what he knows about Benghazi. Because of this, the administration, with the help of the mainstream media, is in the process of doing everything in their power to tear down Petraeus and destroy his reputation. If he does go public with information that is damaging to Obama, he will be portrayed in the media as a “bitter, disgraced ex-general who has an axe to grind, someone who is completely lacking in credibility, and should not be believed.” They will do everything in their power to deflect attention away from the events in Benghazi, and make the whole thing about Petraeus.
Operation Iraqi Freedom was and is a failure. Irag is now an ally of Iran, and the only reason the surge appeared to tamp down violence was that one of the two feuding factions chased the other one out of its areas.
Petraeus has always been a self-promoting tool. He took credit for things that looked like success where he could and got out of town when things looked like they were going south in Afghanistan. He was responsible for the horrible decision to make troops get out of their armored vehicles more to “interact” with the populace. The result was a dramatic increase in our people having their legs and other body parts blown off by IEDs. Even when it became apparent this tactic was a complete failure, it was not stopped.
At least we won’t have to put up with Petraeus running for president, which was probably his ultimate goal.
General, you have been played.
Obama and his inner circle of henchmen knew about your illicit affair a long time ago, when it didn’t mean much. Before you ever got installed as the head of the CIA, Obama and his henchmen spotted you and your honey and thought, “Get Out Of Jail Free” Card!
You were put in as the head of the CIA so that Obama would be able to call up a laser light show on command to take the eyes of the public away from a really embarassing crisis, that turned out to be Benghazi.
Sir, you have been played by the experts. You are the schlep who will take a fall to pull eyes from the White House itself.

Gee..tell the truth.. you owe it to the country. Let hell break wide open on this one. (we can dream) You got the closed hearing due to the affair. Everyone knows now about it.
