Why Does Democratic Socialism Scare Ignorant People So?

Democratic Socialism is actually a good and necessary instrument for a free society; its true meaning has been demonized by the right in order to allow the corporate rich to get even richer. The misguided have been told that any form of socialism is evil and can be compared to Nazism. Non-thinking people get very frightened to hear this analysis and will vote against anything they believe appears to resemble this disastrous form of government even if it means rejecting benefits that will improve their own well being.
A nation will not survive without Democratic Socialism. It's socialism that provides a fire department and police protection and schools to educate all children not just those born to the well off.
Democratic Socialists believe that both the economy and society should be run democraticallyto meet public needs, not to make profits for a few. To achieve a more just society, many structures of our government and economy must be radically transformed through greater economic and social democracy so that ordinary Americans can participate in the many decisions that affect our lives

That chart covers individual states except under the heading “colonialism,” which I assume adds up all murders which can be blamed on governance by foreign powers, likely usually European. Isn’t that cheating? Doesn’t consistency demand you divide those murders up between the individual countries who committed them?

I’ve never heard socialists like the author address this question: if socialism is so good, why have so many fled socialist governments over the years for the U.S. and why don’t more Americans flee to socialist countries?
To: Oldeconomybuyer
It's because we like what we do.
We like guns. We like beer. We like tobacco. We like the possibility of making a killing, or at least a living off our dreams.
Next question.

The reason they have to keep playing word games that alternate between denying they’re socialists and arguing that everyone is a socialist is that people don’t want socialism, for some very good reasons. And they will not talk about what those reasons are.

And just for kicks, here are a few items from the nazi planks adopted in Munich in 1920.
We ask that the government undertake the obligation above all of providing citizens with adequate opportunity for employment and earning a living.
The activities of the individual must not be allowed to clash with the interests of the community, but must take place within its confines and be for the good of all.
Therefore, we demand:
an end to the power of the financial interests .
We demand profit sharing in big business.
We demand a broad extension of care for the aged.
We demand. . . the greatest possible consideration of small business in the purchases of the national, state, and municipal governments.
In order to make possible to every capable and industrious [citizen] the attainment of higher education and thus the achievement of a post of leadership, the government must provide an all-around enlargement of our system of public education. . . .
We demand the education at government expense of gifted children of poor parents. . .
.
The government must undertake the improvement of public health by protecting mother and child, by prohibiting child labor by the greatest possible support for all clubs concerned with the physical education of youth.
>br>We combat the . . . materialistic spirit within and without us, and are convinced that a permanent recovery of our people can only proceed from within on the foundation of " The Common Good Before the Individual Good ."

To be fair IQ is not essentially related to ignorance, though there is a correlation between knowledge and intelligence, obviously.

The word games are part of how its done. You should read "The Language of the 3rd Reich" by Viktor Klemperer.
It details how the nazis manipulated language as a means of manipulating the society (Think about how the word "militia" was used 50 years ago as opposed to the way its used now)
Looks like you can download it here.
The Language of the 3rd Reich (scribd)
Or buy it from Amazon.

Because we live with an “MTV Generation” believe me, it’s amazing how little some of the young adults these days know, much less care, about what is going on in the world around them.
