The deal was this: Military leaders to Hitler: You get rid of the SA and Roehm, then we will swear a loyalty oath to you. Goering and Himmler also wanted Roehm and the SA out of the way. Himmler wanted control of all police forces inside the Reich. Goering wanted to consolidate control over the armed forces. Hitler wanted the support of the generals. This is what brought Roehm down. Roehm’s homosexuality did not. Further there is no credible evidence that Hitler practiced homosexuality although many allegations. Same is true about Hitler’s alleged Jewish grandfather. A rumor which has never been proven.

Otherwise General Allen largely covered his butt in Afghanistan by praising the local forces and making sure his soldiers were watched,while ignoring the locals.

Leavenworth isn’t that big of a place, a School and the Disciplinary barracks with base support personnel? I don’t recall seeing all those Flag Officers there. Ehhhhh....I’ve known some good generals and I’ve known some bad ones. I got in trouble once for making the comment that, “Well, I guess the Enlisted Soldiers will think that their wives are part of the Officers benefit package.” It’s bad enough that some generals have no morals, but almost all of them are stupid.
I enjoy a good dose of crazy now and then.
