PALM SPRINGS, Calif. (AP) -- Police shot a Camp Pendleton Marine who struck an officer with a car in a parking garage in Palm Springs.
The Marine ignored orders to stop after being approached by officers on bike patrol. One officers partially climbed into the passenger window. The car accelerated, striking the other officer and continued with the officer hanging out of the window until the car crashed near the garage exit.
Both officers discharged their weapons... (shot the unarmed Marine).
Both officers were treated for injuries at a hospital and released. The Marine died at the scene.

No, I was not commenting on the article — I was commenting on YOUR comment. Do you see that thing that looks like a comma with a period hovering above, it’s called a semi-colon and is used to connect two separate thoughts into a single thought. Your spouting off “he ignored orders” as if that alone justified the shooting is disturbing.

Your above comment, which assumes a legitimacy of authority actually does imply that.
If someone was trying to run me down, I would shoot him.
It’s a good thing to have locally.

Stop making it like I said it was OK to shoot for simply ignoring orders.
He was shot AFTER the CAR incident.
The point is, anyway, the Marine is not perfectly angelic. I cannot believe everyone excusing this man with what we do know.
My biggest problem with the cops AS PER THIS STORY (again, articles are always incomplete) - the 1 cop “jumping into the window”. Why? What was he doing - trying to stop the car himself? If not, by what rights did he jump onto someone’s car? That is the weirdest thing here.
We “hate” cops, because this is a site that centers around respect for the Constitution. Most, but not all (as everyone is so fond of explicitly stating these days), serve to abuse the rights we have under it, and employ a default corrupt/abusive stance of the citizens they are supposed to “protect and serve.”
If a lot of people all observe the same behavior, it likely has *some* legs to it.
Just sayin....
But of course there are plenty of military that do bad things and break legitimate law, I don’t think many people on here would argue against that pointespecially since there are plenty of documented facts contrary to that stance.
Oh please. 1st, are you under authority? 2nd, was the person doing it on purpose/no sign of stopping his behavior?
I was hit by a little old lady riding my bike as a child.
But actually she did it accidentally, after I accidentally did not pay enough attention to the road to see if someone was coming while I winged down the hill to the road. I hit her side door as she moved by at 25 mph.
(BTW, I didn’t have a safetyNAZI helmet and got away with just a broken arm from the pavement.)
Bad behavior such as driving into a person and possessing someone else’s ID and phone?
I’m judging this on its own merits, not on general prejudices against cops or armed forces.
Until I see more info I’ll generally side with the cops here.
On FR I challenge to find a thread where anyone rags on military. Meanwhile dog threads, e.g., are replete with anti-cop rantings. Although whenever it goes their way - Zimmerman/Trayvon event, riots by OWS or the like - there is silence as to whether the cops were bad or not.
Was there a dog shot in the melee?
You figure they should just let people run them down with cars? He wasn’t unarmed he had 1,500 - 2,000 lb. lethal weapon and was using it.
Well I tend to agree with you on this specific event.
However, your OWS example is tenuous at best.... disturbing the peace and damage to private property are very real crimes whose establishment as a break of the law clearly do not violate the Constitution.
One point I also agree with you on, although you didn’t make it explicitly, is resisting arrest is resisting arrest, even if you are innocent, which is a crime itself.
If you are innocent you will have your day in court (at least for now).
The only time I was arrested was on a false DUI charge that was quickly dropped. The officer had no roadside test available, gave me the ridiculous manual dance test- which I “failed” as they are designed to do, took me in , and once in I got in abot 5 minutes later (We were close the station) I blew a .00 on the breathalyzer since I had not been drinking- LOL; as I tried in vein to explain to the arresting officer. I was *relatively* promptly released- though I never did get that apology.

Without a quality video I can’t accept the officer’s version. Too many police lie and just make stuff these days to accept their word. I don’t know what happened except that a Marine is dead.

Somewhat odd when you recognize the obvious fact that there is a great deal of overlap between the personality types who become cops and who enter the military.
You can make a good case that both occupations are essentially the same, or should be. The military defends society against foreign enemies, while the police defend it against domestic enemies.
Some in both groups are or become crooks, as with any other occupational groups. Cops in particular obviously have a great deal more opportunity to get involved in crooked activity than the average person.
Okay, I give up.
Why was she riding your bike?
Sounds a bit like suicide by cop. One wonders what was going through this serviceman’s head at the time; guess we’ll never know.
Assumes facts not in evidence and you're extremely naive if you expect AP to accurately report on anything. By the way, the vehicle itself is a weapon particularly in the hands of someone who's s***faced.
