PALM SPRINGS, Calif. (AP) -- Police shot a Camp Pendleton Marine who struck an officer with a car in a parking garage in Palm Springs.
The Marine ignored orders to stop after being approached by officers on bike patrol. One officers partially climbed into the passenger window. The car accelerated, striking the other officer and continued with the officer hanging out of the window until the car crashed near the garage exit.
Both officers discharged their weapons... (shot the unarmed Marine).
Both officers were treated for injuries at a hospital and released. The Marine died at the scene.

Tragic, R.
It’s a different country now, communist as per liberals, election fraud and a communist propaganda machine posing as our media. And with communism comes the police state. You will stop while in a PARKING garage!
maybe a relative is a cop too? Just a thought . . . a depressing one . . .
Huh? Bad example.
The guy ignored orders (probably drunk), hit a cop, and had stolen items on him.
Not all enlisted men are full of honor, as we so glibly and loftily assume here.
Have any of you READ the article?
Accident? Or road rage? We fervently hope any Marine would be way above venting road rage at a pair of bicycle police, but maybe this is one that cracked? He had no gun, to be sure, but he did have a guided missile.
If the facts are as given in the story, the shoot sounds justified. Shame the Marine would throw his life away like that.
That's as good an excuse as any to get drunk and try out your new stolen smartphone and ID card.
OR,
Surely drunk, Rab thinks. So go thru a window crash the car, all shoot the kid. Tragic.
The Marine Corps, not them... I thought they had discovered Methuselah’s secret potion, and had grown up when there were no horseless carriages, let alone modern automobiles.

Therefore, deserve summary termination. /s
I don’t know what it is about Camp Pendleton and the surrounding area. Google SGT Manny Loggins, who was driving his daughters for an early morning jog before school and was shot in his vehicle with the girls sitting in the back seat. Just saw that the officer was not charged. I could give more details but it would take up to much space. occurred February 2012
He should have had a dog with him, so they would have likely shot and killed it instead......
The police these days(seemingly nation wide) are becoming increasingly militarized and out of control....Yes, there are exceptions. Hell, for our small rural town of not even 10,000 people, the police recently acquired a giant armored vehicle. If the thing had a turret/barrel and treads, I’d call it a black tank.... WHY??????
Having said that, I’m SURE they didn’t pay for it. The funding for it probably came from a federal grant of some kind. Likely either Homeland security(an agency that shouldn’t exist in the first place) or stimulus/0bama money.
Regardless of where the funding originated, we don’t need that damn thing(our town HAS somehow managed to exist for over 100 years without it). If our local police encounter a situation where such a monstrosity is necessary, they need to either call in the state boys, national guard, or something.
Oily, who ALWAYS comes down on the side of jerkboots no matter HOW jerky, needs to learn a little lesson about crying wolf. I’d wonder about the wisdom of leaning into the window of a car that looked like it would not stop, but otherwise it seems unsurprising that he got himself shot at.
Not all orders are lawful; it is somewhat disturbing that your response here is "he ignored orders."
Not all enlisted men are full of honor, as we so glibly and loftily assume here.
And not all police are honorable either... in fact, I've heard of them robbing the homeless.
Nor officers, apparently. I've as much respect for the military as anyone, but wearing the uniform does not constitute a free pass on bad behavior.
What would you think of getting hit by a car and continued resistance?
‘Not all orders are lawful; it is somewhat disturbing that your response here is “he ignored orders.”’
1st off, I had a LIST of things he did wrong, apparently. INCLUDING HITTING A MAN WITH A CAR. (Never mind the stolen items on his person, apparently, although that’s after the fact - I guess.)
2nd, as with all articles, this 1 does not have all the facts. You assume apparently this order to stop is “unlawful”. You can’t assume that because you don’t know what happened to instigate this per the article.
“not all police are honorable either..”
Did I say they are? Stop jumping to conclusions based on limited writings.
The truth is FR is rife with people who hate cops, while I’m yet to see anyone question any armed-forces member. They HAVE done wrong, you know. Hence my comment about enlisted men and FR’s assumptions.
Good luck buddy. On Free Republic the Military can do no wrong but the cops are all Jack Booted Thugs.
