Most all of us agree Main Stream Media (MSM, Old Media, the Alphabets....) was a factor in this cycle. It began with WH shill George Stephanopolous' planted debate question to Romney about contraception, and continued through the ignored tragedies in the wake of Sandy on Staten and Long Islands that Obama had supposedly healed with his 2 hour visit. Our goal is to hasten MSM demise by concentrating our efforts. Please join us.
It's difficult to turn off ALL media all the time, so let's agree to one at a time. NBC News programs are my suggestion and consensus choice of our Sunday Morning News Show thread. They're all bad, but NBC News seems the worst offender. )
We will have an affect if we concentrate our efforts rather than dilute the effort over the huge spectrum of TV News.)
We know NBC/MSNBC's ratings are weak and getting weaker across the various platforms, perhaps even extending beyond news. My goal, our goal, is to put them out of business with a final killing financial shiv. Old media proved they're not quite dead...yet. I say kill 'em.)
Start today by avoiding NBC News programs. Spend those minutes and hours elsewhere, even if it's one of the other alphabets to get the mainstream spin. (Remember fundamentals; one at a time)
The sentiments of hundreds of us on this thread are likely shared by a good portion of the FR nation. And certainly another 47% of the country share some or all of our sentiments. Simply ignore NBC News. They're irrelevant.)
Step one; A noticeable loss of numbers for NBC News will add up and be noticed. Cable and satellite digital companies certainly know who's watching what, when. If they know, advertisers know.
Lost viewership = lost impressions to advertisements = reduced sales of advertised products = loss of sponsors.
I'm hesitant to boycott commercial enterprises (the companies that advertise), but they must know they'll be wasting their money on a huge portion of their audience if they advertise on NBC News.
We'll not be exposed to your ads, and if we are, we sure as hell won't patronize them. Something's got to change. We'll start here and now.
(I dont know that this will be successful unless you can cut off the nursing home TV sets.).....and the television sets in the public school classrooms across America where teachers are mandated to show Channel One News (or the schools will loose their free govt. television sets). I used to turn it off, but was reprimanded. Now I require my students to support or refute what is presented, but that will end soon, as requirements to “present lessons only in line with the mandated curriculum” increase daily. This is the kind of crap your kids are being indoctrinated with if they are in govt. school: http://www.channelone.com/news/islam/
Channel One News partners with NBC and CBS and reaches over six million students per day...by mandate!
We need a list of companies who sponsor these propagandists, and list of specific bias events. Agreed, one at a time is best.
I understand however, DNC Dave is such a cool guy that he's mastered that new dance and demonstrated on a Today show a few weeks back. NBC News is embarrassing.
One thing folks are failing to register is the reality that Mitt Romney can not afford to be a hardass on the vote fraud, because he cannot afford the neagtive press it would generate toward MormonISM/LDSinc. He was the ideal candidate for the democraps to cheat because he would not chance the negatives vermin media would flood the airwaves with regarding MormonISM if he failed to go along ...
You shouldn't, but it's not tripe (tasty I understand)
Quite the contrary, it's destructive anti-American RATaganda...it needs to be attacked, challenged, and countered by the truth.
I would suggest sending tips to NB as well.
The best thing Newt can do is set up a Debate Boot Camp online course,
that should be mandatory training for any serious candidate. That would include highlights of his in-your-face replies to stupid debate moderators during the primaries.
Just defund NPR. that’s something we can all write our congresscritter about.
I don't want them to blink...I want them to go blind.
No surprises. I will make a list of their sponsors tonight and tomorrow night just in case they have weekend sponsors and during the week sponsors. So we can see who is who. We have to be careful about overlap between nbc and other nets.
F'em
Haven’t watched network news in years, nor any of their Sunday shows. Wish I could help, but my friends all watch FOX.
Exactly what we need to do! I will donate about $50 to add to other donations to hire detectives to follow them around. Traitors like Chrissie Matthews, and Wolf Blitzer, etc. How bout it Freepers!
The media has been heavily biased for some time, but starting 2008 it outright went from biased to activist and now essentially indistinguishable from being state controlled like in authoritarian regimes.
I’m not sure how this plan would help.
TV ratings are still, as always, determined by Neilsen (see wikipedia entry for how it works). Unless you’re a Neilsen household, there’s no mechanism by which your cable company or anyone else tracks or reports what you’re watching.
As of 2009, there were 114,500,000 U.S. television households. Of those, only 25,000 total American households (approx 0.02183% of the total) were Neilsen households.
Per JimRob, FreeRepublic had 273,808 unique viewers on election night, which is probably about our peak for the year. Of that number, it’s unlikely that even 1 or 2 of those viewers are connected to Neilsen’s metered ratings system.
A formal boycott of sponsors would probably be more affective if you were able to organize enough FReepers in a formal effort, though history tells me that’s a little like herding cats.
I appreciate that you’re trying to do something to make a difference, and hope you meet with some success.
