Was David Petraeus’s Affair In The New York Times Four Months Ago?

The surprise resignation of David Petraeus yesterday was the result of an extramarital affair with his biographer, Paula Broadwell. But was this relationship between the CIA director and a journalist really a surprise?

As numerous media outlets are reporting, it appears that Broadwell’s husband may have written a letter to Chuck Klosterman, the ethicist at the New York Times, about the affair months ago:

My wife is having an affair with a government executive. His role is to manage a project whose progress is seen worldwide as a demonstration of American leadership.

The New York Times has an ethicist? I would love to see what the job qualifications for that position are.
