Boehner Tells House G.O.P. to Fall in Line
ny times ^ | 11/10/2012 | By JONATHAN WEISMAN and JENNIFER STEINHAUER

On a conference call with House Republicans a day after the party’s electoral battering last week, Speaker John A. Boehner dished out some bitter medicine, and for the first time in the 112th Congress, most members took their dose.

Their party lost, badly, Mr. Boehner said, and while Republicans would still control the House and would continue to staunchly oppose tax rate increases as Congress grapples with the impending fiscal battle, they had to avoid the nasty showdowns that marked so much of the last two years.

Members on the call, subdued and dark, murmured words of support — even a few who had been a thorn in the speaker’s side for much of this Congress.

It was a striking contrast to a similar call last year, when Mr. Boehner tried to persuade members to compromise with Democrats on a deal to extend a temporary cut in payroll taxes, only to have them loudly revolt.

With President Obama re-elected and Democrats cementing control of the Senate, Mr. Boehner will need to capitalize on the chastened faction of the House G.O.P. that wants to cut a deal to avert sudden tax increases and across-the-board spending cuts in January that could send the economy back into recession. After spending two years marooned between the will of his loud and fractious members and the Democratic Senate majority, the speaker is trying to assert control, and many members seem to be offering support.

The GOP establishment has made it clear that Boehner is there to stay.

You’re full of sh!t newby.

I didn’t realize this was a union shop where seniority holds such great esteem. Catsrus signed up in 2009. Is Catsrus also “full of sh!t?

What part of my comment indicates “sh!t volume?”

The truth is, “Operation Chaos” was Rush’s baby. It fulfilled its purpose of stopping Hillary. We’re stuck with the unintended consequence.

The GOP House members has already indicated that they will stick with Boehner, even at the expense of Conservatives.

Rush also gave us “Operation Chaos” in 2008. That led to Obama in the first place!

Are peoples memories really so short that they can't remember what happened 4 years ago. Operation Chaos was where Rush encouraged Republicans to cross-over and vote for Hillary in order to prevent Obama from wrapping up the nomination early. How in the world did that give us Obama?

I tend to agree. It will be Bush’s fault. If he had not cut taxes in the first place Obama would not have to raise them.

Once again. 3rd parties always failed, fail now, and will fail in the future. Your so called third party conservative candidate will get 1% of vote like always. That's the way it is. Period.

Time for us to stop bitching and actually do the WORK to make sure good candidates win in primaries and win in the general. It's time for us to make sure conservatives control the republican party. That takes work and organization, which keyboard commandos need to learn.

Party leadership will be decided in the next two months. Local and State. What are YOU doing to make sure the leadership is conservative?

Say, isn't Rand Paul a senator?

Shuster: ... At the time of Limbaugh's remarks, John McCain had practically wrapped up the Republican nomination, and Barack Obama had reeled off 11 straight Democratic victories. That's when the Clinton campaign launched its kitchen sink strategy and Limbaugh launched his vote-for-Hillary strategy. Did it work? Approximately 119,000 Texas Republicans voted for her in a state where Clinton's margin of overall victory over Obama was about 101,000. In other words, Republicans helped turn a virtual draw into a slight Clinton victory. While Obama won Mississippi in a landslide, Republicans favored Clinton three-to-one. Swelling her vote totals is costing Obama, according to analysts, a few delegates. The next big Democratic primary in Pennsylvania is a closed contest, meaning registered Democrats only. But Republican tactical voting is still a potential factor in Indiana, Montana, and Puerto Rico, and conservatives who identify themselves as independents can vote in North Carolina and West Virginia. That means out of the nine remaining major Democratic contests, conservatives could cause mischief in five of them. The question is, will it make any difference or not?

RUSH: Mr. Shuster, don't forget Pennsylvania. You left it out there. We have operatives who are registering Democrat up until March 25th to vote for Hillary in Pennsylvania. It is happening there, too. Operation Chaos, Rush the Vote, exceeding all objectives. Now, on Hardball, Chris Matthews hosting former New York City Mayoral candidate Mark Green. He's also the president of Air America, whose audience you could put in a thimble, phone booth certainly. Matthews says, "Mark, what do you think here? Is this going to be the greatest example of political sabotage in history? Republicans sneak into Democrat voting booths, elect the candidate that they think is easiest to beat? Not always right, by the way, there were a lot of Democrats that rooted for Reagan to win the nomination only to learn he could beat any Democrat."

Perhaps my memory fails me, but I recall Rush encouraging votes for Obama in the primary out of fear that Hillary was the stronger candidate.

I could be mistaken. I couldn’t always get Rush’s show. Radio reception had been hit or miss depending on the weather.

I agree. And we need to make sure we have good competent local and state republican leadership which will be decided in the next couple of months.

I don't care if third party candidates work, it's divorcing the GOP and sending them the way of the Whigs as they need to be. Conservativatism will survive and will flourish after we get rid of and then rebuild the GOP.

i agree...i’d like to spit in Boehner’s face but his response to ayatollah obama’s demand for a tax increase was pretty much in line with what everyone on the right wants- tax reform and cuts in spending yet no tax increases....

as far as the article- the GOP controlled congress has not been to stellar the past two years so i won’t get upset....its more BS from the NYSlimes...

Before you accuse Rush of doing something that led to the election of Obama, don't you think it is incumbent upon you to at least check the accusation for accuracy before making it?

The rino establishment types will ensure we get someone just as rino as boehner if not more

Then we need to get a new establishment. Our local and state republican parties are getting new executive committees in the next couple of months. Time to get to work.
