WASHINGTON (AP) House Speaker John Boehner offered Wednesday to pursue a deal with a victorious President Barack Obama that will include higher taxes under the right conditions to help reduce the nations staggering debt and put its finances in order.
Mr. President, this is your moment, Boehner told reporters. We want you to lead.
Boehner said House Republicans are asking Obama to make good on a balanced approach that would including spending cuts and address government social benefit programs.
Lets find the common ground that has eluded us, Boehner said while congratulating the president on winning a second term.
The Ohio Republican spoke a day after the presidents clear re-election victory. He said conditions on higher taxes would include a revamped tax code to make it cleaner and fairer, fewer loopholes and lower rates for all.

This isn’t what I saw..... Boehner said he wants to increase revenue.... that doesn’t mean higher taxes.
AP making up news again so Republicans can can revolt ?
Amazing how we rail against the MSM but react to everything they tell us.
I’m ready to revolt, do nothing and let the chips fall where they may revolt.
John Boehner is an idiot. When you compromise with evil, evil advances. It’s time to secede.
Boner can go and play a game for the cameras. But I think it is risky because the Obama can lie and say Boner said this or Boner said that. What Boner really needs to do is sit back and watch the show. He will get some angry phone calls but not nearly as many as Feinstein, Boxer, and a bunch of other blue state senators. Sequestration is our major lever against the blue states.
Boehner is proposing exactly what Romney proposed...LOWER RATES FOR ALL
If it is such a great idea, why didn’t Bonehead and Cantor
share it, BEFORE the ELECTION, NOT 1 Day after?
You know and I know.
And everybody else who reads this knows.
Bonehead and Cantor MUST GO! Period.
Decades of Grand Bargains from both sides have brought us to the brink. That’s what compromise has given us. A failed society. My advice to u and those that think like you, is to
stock up on everything u can, sooner than later.
Yes, I agree, and as far as secession goes, my idiot state voted for Obama...
If any state begins such a movement I will go there, I don’t care if I have to sleep outside.
Obama may agree so he can get credit for the improved economy which will result (like Clinton did with welfare reform) but Obama is not as popular as he once was. He got 10,000,000 fewer votes.
I think he doesn't get the credit like Clinton did.

But because this can be spun as a "tax increase" or compromise on tax increases, when the Republicans now refuse to drink from whatever turd filled punch-bowl the Kenyan communist passes to them, the media will be all over them like a cheap suit wailing about "Republican intransigence."
There is simply no way when the press lies constantly like this that the Republicans can successfully negotiate.
They should do what they can now to shut the government down and hope they have time to recover before the midterms.
Obviously you weren't paying attention last year when they proposed the same thing. Obama slipped in tax hikes at the last minute and Boehner walked. He wouldn't even take Obama's calls after that.
My guess is that this time Obama will take the deal (calling loophole closings "tax hikes" to save face) and will try to take credit for being the great dealmaker.
I have 2 co-workers that I know voted for Obama. The ONLY silver lining is looking forward to their first paycheck in January without the Bush tax cuts. They have been in place most of their working lives. I just want one of them to say anything, and then I unload...
Apple Blossom
FIRST of all- I am not defending Boehner, I am clearly clarifying that the headline was misleading.
Secondly- His "grand bargain" is brilliant. Obama kept saying during the election that he wanted to close loopholes(feel free to read over transcripts from the debates).
Thirdly- the "grand bargain" is no bargain for Obama- it is a trap. It's a "Hey, you said you want to reach across the aisle. Good- Lead then. Here is something we agree on- increase revenue and close loopholes- let's get 'er done."
and did you bother to read the rest of my post where I agree that Boehner needs to go! He is a spineless hack!
Now, if anyone in the house had a pair, they would say-- Hey, we will agree to work with you on Revenue issues, but not until the Senate passes a budget. No one can run a house, business, or government without a budget. Without a budget, anything else is a clear message to the American people that the Senate thinks they are above a budget and don't need one, because after all- who needs a budget when you have TAXPAYERS?
cheers to you. I know this is hard on us, and hard work, but we have got to stay smart!
I guess u chose not to address how all these Grand Bargains
over decades have brought us to the brink.
Nor did I see why Bonehead and Cantor did not share this so
called great idea BEFORE the election, not 1 day after.
Could it be that the reason Bonehead and Cantor did not share
this so called GRAND BARGAIN BEFORE The election is that a whole
lot of conservatives would NOT think that Grand of it?
Me thinks so. So, if its not Grand enough to share BEFORE the
election, what makes it so Grand 1 day after the election?
Not me. I'm going to watch Dancing with the Stars. /s
I hope you feel better. You are missing the point. The media puts up a headline that claims that Boehner has agreed to new taxes.
they didtwo things— they get the talking point that Boehner agreed to it the day after election, but that is not at all what Boehner said. But then when the House refuses to pass anything that raises taxes, the GOP are too extreme, Speaker can’t control his Tea Party extremists in the House, blah blah blah.
but the second thing they did, which is even worse- is they get the grassroots Republicans all pissed off at Boehner. Then you yell at fellow brothers in arms because we won’t answer to every little caveat point you want to bitch and whine about. They played you like a fiddle.
But hey— you spend your time pissed off fighting with FREEPers and drawing swords for pissing contests.
I tried to treat you with respect after YOU jumped me for my thoughts. I gave you benefit of the doubt, that maybe your tone was harsh because we are all having a bad day, and sometimes we get snappy without really meaning to. Ya know take it out on folks who really are on your side, not trying to poke ya in the ribs.....
but no....you are more interested in keeping your tone with ME, than with the media and the real enemies out there. I would have liked an actual conversation about ideas, and was willing to have one. But your attitude is not one about solutions and ideas, you just want to be sarcastic and insist that YOUR issues be addressed. It is just a trap. Why the hell would I bother talking about “over decades”?????? LOL!! I wrote a simple post pointing out that the headline was misleading- that’s all. I got now bargains to defend or explain “over the decades”—
but why let pointing out a misleading headline get in the way of your bitchfest that you seem to want to drag fellow FREEPers into just make YOU feel better...
get some sleep, have a drink, but whatever you do, don’t let the media keep pushing your buttons into wreaking havoc in your own ranks....the real enemies are media and the liars in DC...
I truly hope you calm down and start thinking more clearly... til then.....
Last I checked, democrats blaming all the Tea Party Congresscritters
did not work in this election, so why would Bonehead be afraid for 2014?
The truth is Bonehead loves to work deals.
And decades of deal making from both sides have brought this
country to the brink.
If fact, it worked so poorly, Pelosi will NOT be elected
minority leader and will in the near future leave congress.
I said much the same thing this morning to my wife. Let's drive this car called America right over the fiscal cliff as fast as possible and let it burn to the ground.
Give Obama a blank check and let him go. Let him and his supporters rack up the debt and run us all out of money.
You know, Obama Supporters have alot in common with alcoholics and drug addicts. Just like an alcoholic who won't stop drinking while the booze is still flowing, or a drug addict snorting up cocaine as long as they can get their hands on it, Obama and his supporters can do nothing but spend, spend, spend as long as the printing press keeps churning out dollars.
Just like an alcoholic or drug addict, they can't stop until they run out of booze or drugs. It's only when there is no more, or they cannot get their hands on anymore that they're finally forced to deal with their situation.
Same thing for Obama and his supporters.
So give 'em the blank check, Mr. Boehner. Let them send the car named America right off the fiscal cliff to crash and burn so we can finally get about the business of fixing this country after all the liberals die in the crash.
Let's get it over with already. We all know it's coming anyway and I'm sick and damn' tired of living under this impending feeling of doom. Just bring it on.
I don’t disagree with a word you just said. Why all the attitude with everyone? None of us are cheerleading for Boehner or Cantor. We can want to replace them with real conservatives without falling for false headlines, and hoping that they play a smarter game until we get them replaced... btw— I read your home page.....laughed my ass off! you got a knack for making friends!
Oh well, such is life. I wish you and your friends good luck
in your strategy for Bonehead.
The truth of last night election is that the takers beat the
makers. We crossed a point of no return last night. 47% AND
GROWING of takers beat the rest of us. That percent will be
over 50% in the next four years under Obama.
If it makes you feel good about the strategy of what Bonehead
should do, or what he should not do, knock yourself out
and have fun doing it.
ha— I use to call DC everyday— they don’t bother returning my calls anymore- LOL! so- now I hound the Speaker on Twitter...he pisses me off, and he knows it.
honestly- you know who I am pissed most about- the troops who were neglected their right to vote. INFURIATES me! The media LOVED to politicize their caskets under Bush, LOVE showing videos of their surprise reunions with family....but AWOL when it comes to supporting their right to have their votes counted. AWOL!
now WHO pisses me off? EVERY libertarian who tells social conservative to hang their principles at the door, but clings to THEIR principles to STAY HOME or VOTE FOR GARY JOHNSON!!??!!?? Romney kept the Evangelical vote home is the spin I hear in the headlines, but I think it is the Paulites that stayed home and voted for Johnson.
The important thing is that we have Tea Party folks, FREEPers, and Breitbart warriors... We aren’t making the change we want as quick as we want, but dear God could you just imagine what it would look like without any of these three groups?
