So, for 2016--is it Rubio, Cruz, or Martinez?
Self-vanity

OK, is there now any doubt that the next republican presidential candidate MUST be a hispanic? IMO, there is zero chance of a republican garnering more than 5% of the black vote, and, apparently, we now have so many single women who are government-dependent that a republican cannot overcome the gender gap to any significant degree.

Since the nation seems to have been irretrievably divided up into disparate voting blocks and interest groups, it seem to me there is no other choice for the republicans than to spend the next 4 years in an all out campaign to win over the hispanic vote.

The question is, who, among prominent hispanic potential GOP candidates is the strongest alternative, and why? Rubio, Susana Martinez, and Ted Cruz immediately come to mind, but perhaps there are more. I would even go so far as to support a double hispanic ticket with a female included, such as Rubio/Martinez, Cruz/Martinez, etc. The republicans absolutely have to win in 2016, or I fear it is over for them.

There is Scott Walker - conservative who can win in a liberal state.

The GOP has a big farm bench. There are popular conservative gvernors it can field for President.

It just needs to find a solid conservative candidate. Someone who I could be happy to vote for and doesn’t make me feel like I have to support the lesser of two evils!

I could give two $hits who the GOP picks for 2016. This was my last election. I’m done with them all.

Ditto.

Jeb Bush vs. Biden or Jeb Bush vs. Hillary. Count on it.

Mike Pence - he’s the ideal GOP presidential candidate. A real conservative... everything Romney wasn’t. The GOP liberal establishment didn’t want him this year.

No previous statewide office kind of doomed any hopes there.

I don’t think it matters who we run. Look at what the left says about Condeleeza. If its Rubio, the media will just find an unflattering angle in which to frame him with. We have reached a point of no return with media, SNL, Letterman, music stars. Whatever side they choose, will win. Not only is there a lack of positive coverage, there are no longer ANY tough questions asked of “the popular kid.” Mit was framed as the rich, uncaring guy who would have bankrupted the car industry and 47% of the electorate never saw anything else. They also have no idea what the fiscal cliff is, where Benghazi is, thinks Michelle deserves to take lavish vacations, and still blame Bush for everything. Oh, and on the hurricane front, I won’t give another dime to the Red Cross. Will only give locally. Hope Christie and FEMA work out well for you this weekend.

The next candidate doesn’t have to be Hispanic, he has to be conservative. The reality of both the last elections is that 2 big government liberals who happened to have Rs after their name did not inspire confidence in the base. Fiscal and constitutional conservatives looking at the election deeper than party affiliation couldn’t see how a guy that pushed socialized medicine on his state was going to be significantly better than a guy that pushed socialized medicine on the country. Sure Romney SAID he would overturn Obamacare, but anybody who knows how government works knew that was a lie because presidents don’t have that kind of power, and even if they didn’t figure that out they looked at Romneycare and didn’t believe him anyway.

Run conservatives. Run conservatives that don’t have a history oath breaking, haven’t said exactly the opposite, and don’t go off on looney tangents. Get the base energized again, earn their votes.

We are getting the cart before the horse. Just running a Hispanic/Latino candidate is crass politics that looks exactly like what it is. Instead, every single Conservative that speaks Spanish needs to be out in the community at every available meeting explaining, IN SPANISH, why the Democrat Party is NOT in line with Hispanic/Latino values. Only by reaching out to them in ways that they culturally and linguistically understand do we have ANY hope of explaining to them why running toward the Democrat goodies cliff is actually hurting them. Maybe we need to get “Rules for Radicals” printed in Spanish so that they can actually see how the progressives/liberals/statists are playing them for fools as political pawns to an undesirable end.

The same is true for black Conservatives. YES, it will be very, very hard, but you must begin to speak from the inside and change your community in ways that we on the outside will never achieve.

And women -— we who are older are supposed to teach the younger women what is good, and right, and honorable. And YES, contrary to the opinion of some, many women voted for Obama based on the use of the words “abortion” and “contraception” alone. It was a visceral response as if they were voting against being actually raped by Republicans and then forced to produce the children for us -— mind boggling to me.

Understood.

Your position is essentially if it is to come, then let’s bring it about. If we are to go over the cliff, then push it now.

I suppose I am there myself.

"We’ll nominate the next loser in line - Paul Ryan and we’ll lose again.

Its just a GOP rule to pick the dauphin rather than a candidate who can actually win!"

Jindal - born in the U.S. to two foreign citizen parents - is a citizen of the U.S. via 14th Amendment and eligible to be Senator, Rep in the House, SCOTUS justice, Governor and other political positions within a state, but is not a natural born Citizen and therefore not eligible to be the Commander in Chief.

Rubio - born in the U.S. to two foreign citizen parents - is a citizen of the U.S. via 14th Amendment and eligible to be Senator, Rep in the House, SCOTUS justice, Governor and other political positions within a state, but is not a natural born Citizen and therefore not eligible to be the Commander in Chief.

Cruz - born in a foreign country - became a citizen of the U.S. via naturalization and eligible to be Senator, Rep in the House, SCOTUS justice, Governor and other political positions within a state, but is not a natural born Citizen and therefore not eligible to be the Commander in Chief.

However, it appears that the majority of the country, including many (most?) Republicans, don't care about Article II, Section 1, Clause 5 of the U.S. Constitution.

Ironic that you should mention Dauphin...

According to today's America, the current Dauphin of France, Prince Louis Duke of Burgundy is eligible to be our Commander in Chief.

I don’t care about race either. But we really need to live in the real world, and sadly, millions of voters do care about race. What’s wrong with running a latino, if they are truly a conservative or center-right candidate?

I guess the question is, would they stay? Would we have "Rubio Republicans" or "Martinez Republicans" like we used to have "Reagan Republicans"? Would they truly enter a conservative coalition, or would it be a "one and done" deal?

I am agnry this a.m.; therefore, I will say it as it is.

You are an idiot.

If you had a brain cell in your head, you would know Rubio can not be president. Although he was born in the U.S., he was NOT born of 2 American citizens. Further, he lied, not unusual of politicians, saying his parents left Cuba during Castro’s upheaval. They left for the U.S. much before that.

None of the above.

Gary Johnson or somebody like him.

The GOP just committed a slow suicide. No reason the rest of us should follow suit.

You have to ask yourself: would Gingrich, Bachmann, Santorum, or Paul have done better than Romney? The answer is: they would have done worse, especially Bachmann or Santorum. Possibly Herman Cain might have done better, at least breaking Obama's near monopoly on the black vote. But he would have done worse than Romney with independents and moderates, as he is unquestionably conservative. If any Republican had a chance with this group, it would have been Romney. Yet he failed to win the suburban counties in areas like Philadelphia, though Obama's victory margin there was smaller than in 2008 (only a 2,800 vote win in Bucks County this time).

Also, the Libertarian vote was insignificant in the overall outcome. In none of the swing states did Gary Johnson's total cover the Obama vs. Romney gap. For instance, he won 49,000 votes in Ohio, but Obama won the Buckeye State by 100,000. Overall, Johnson won about 1.2 million votes in the national popular vote, but Obama has a 2.6 million vote lead over Romney.
