THE GOP DIED LAST NIGHT
boblonsberry.com ^ | 11/07/12 | Bob Lonsberry

The Republican Party died last night.

Somewhere in the suburbs of Cleveland, on the shore of Lake Erie, in the decisions of some suburban voters, the Republican Party stopped being a nationally viable political organization.

Oh, it will continue to exist.

But it will likely never again truly contest for the presidency. The nation has changed, the values have been replaced, the demographics are different.

The demographics are insurmountable.

Last night was a tipping point, a dance on a razor’s edge, and it went the other way. What was undoable last night will become increasingly impossible with each passing year. The margins will grow, the base will shrink, the tide will turn and the day will pass.

The Republican Party died last night.

Oh, it will continue to exist.

There will be the name and the elephants, but nationally, conservatism is playing against an impossibly stacked deck.

The nation had a clear choice. Each party ran candidates who were true to type. The Republicans ran conservatives and the Democrats ran liberals and it was a rout. Nothing changed except that Republicans got rebuffed across the board.

America wants Democrat.

More specifically, America wants liberal. It wants an activist, empowered government, imposing fairness and supporting entitlement.

That’s what America wants.

At least half of it wants that. Half and a tiny bit more.

And the inexorably shifting demographics of the nation ensure that that tiny bit more will grow steadily, cementing the liberal majority and creating an electoral impossibility of replacing it.

Last night was the last chance.

It was the last chance to gain a last national electoral victory over the Democratic coalition – Latinos, blacks, gays, feminists, trade unionists, government employees and welfare beneficiaries. The last chance to let a Republican president advocate the conservative, constitutional principles upon which American society was built.

But America said, “No, thanks.”

The majority preferred more of the last four years to anything Mitt Romney and the Republicans were offering.

The constituent communities of that majority are only going to grow in size and prominence in American society. They are going to increasingly dominate our society and politics.

Four years from now, more of the older conservative voters will be dead, and more of the younger liberal voters will be registered to vote. The Latino community, essentially co-opted by the Democrats into an aggrieved permanent minority status, will, like black voters, be larger and more Democrat. Four years from now, the cultural shift away from traditional values will be more advanced, thanks to more brainwashing by school teachers and sitcoms.

Those members of our society who typically identify with the Democratic Party are increasing. Those members of our society who typically identify with the Republican Party are shrinking.

You do the math.

Certain, Republicans will keep running. And some of them, no doubt, will win. But they will be a different sort of Republican.

They will not be conservative. Certainly not socially or morally conservative.

They will bend over backwards to avoid the principles of moral conservatism, so as to not disrespect a social norm.

They will be Democrat-lite.

Or they will not win.

Last night was our best chance.

And America chose the other team.

Almost $3 billion was spent on the presidential campaign. Untold tens of millions of dollars were spent on congressional campaigns across the country. And nothing changed.

Obama is still in the White House. The Democrats still control the Senate. Republicans still control the House of Representatives. The pundits say America voted to break the grid lock, that it voted to demand team work. It did no such thing. It voted to maintain the status quo.

So we have gone on a long, painful and expensive national journey, and it has left us exactly where we started.

A couple of House seats this way, a couple of Senate seats that way, and Obama on top of the whole thing.

That isn’t change, that is business as usual.

Conservatism has become a regional philosophy, the Republican Party a regional party. It will win governorships, it will win seats in the House or Senate, but it will essentially be a phenomenon of the South and Midwest.

Where traditional values endure and dwindle, the Republican Party will still be relevant.

But those places will shrink and shrivel. And each year, the gap between those who support conservatism and the number needed to win a national victory will grow.

Last night was conservatism’s last stand.

And it lost.

The Republican Party died last night.

STOP IT.

The media won.... not even Obama cared that much.

The media needs content to survive and grow and Romney wasn’t going to supply it.

Pain, suffering, confusion all feed the media machine. Even Rush, Sean, etc do much better when the dems are in power.

How about this strategy: I think the Tea Party should join with the dems and take over their agenda...

No more media for me.... I’d rather start smoking again, it was probably healthier.

It would have been a bigger blowout if a more conservative had been nominated. Face it — most of the rest of the country does not agree with us. The population has been dumbed down. We passed the tipping point. Those taking benefits outnumber productive citizens. They are not going to give up their benefits.

Buy gold that does not get reported.

Buy firearms that do not need to be reported (this might be very tricky)

If they know about either they will come for it.

Illegal immigrants will be granted amnesty and be allowed to vote! Criminals will be well treated by the left and allowed to vote! Islam will rule the U.S.! The left will cheat, too, to maintain political power, for the long term! The idea that the GOP and conservatives will be able to, actually, turn things around, soon, is pure fantasy! IT’S OVER FOR THE GOP AND U.S. CONSERVATISM, UNTIL AND UNLESS THERE’S A TOTAL, OFFICIAL COLLAPSE OF EVERYTHING ON THE LEFT’S SIDE! BTW, my longtime tagline continues to ring true.

Buy gold and buy guns. When the inevitable economic meltdown occurs, it will be the only way to survive the chaos.

The democrats have already spent all of everyone elses money. Last I knew, they were printing 4 billion a month to keep the economy alive. Now that Oboma "won", businesses are going to start laying off like crazy because of Obomacare and taxes.
The dollar is disappearing. Eventually, a loaf of bread will cost a days wages, and those welfare cards won't bring in the freebies they used to. The democrats are going to get hungry, but there will be nothing left to steal for them. The scrounging grasshoppers have outnumbered the ants. All the ants can do is prep, and wish the welfare the democrats the best of luck. They'll be on their own.

Hmmm.....Half and Half, I have seen that before.

One half will prosper, the other will starve. If we have conservatives and true Americans at our local and state levels, we will survive and emerge from this crisis better and stronger for it.

You all are perfectly correct. Though we lost the election, we gained a much better understanding of what we are up against.

We have to change one thing: Our culture of expectation.

First we must transform the media. I am not sure how, but I think Glenn Becks, “The Blaze” is on the right track. The MSM is pretty much responsible for everything we don't like about what has happened to this country. FOX is way to Politically correct. I am not looking for Spin, just pain old truthful facts. That should not be difficult.

The second thing is we must change how we are educating our kids. This one is going to take some time, but is doable.

Lot's of opportunities, and we have 4 years to make a real difference. We must do more than promise a “change” The “change” must be self evident. Not a pipe-dream, but a reality. If we cannot make more than a little progress in the next four years, our promise's are empty

To everyone who says this, how would a conservative taken away the 75% hispanic, and 93+% black vote that went for Obama?

You are kidding yourself thinking that “true” conservative would have won this election. The GOP as we knew it is DONE. Conservative values are not wanted by the majority, therefore you can not win by running on Conservative values.

What is so difficult to understand?

Ditto, to what you said, but they, all, must be done EVERYWHERE IN THE WORLD, too! It’s not enough to focus on, just, U.S. conservatism, when the rest of the world is “stuck” with leftist governments, too! One of the reasons for my tagline.

That was an off-year election. The GOP will continue to have success in off-year elections, when turnout is low. They won’t ever win the presidency again.

“Actually, AMERICA DIED LAST NIGHT!”

INCORRECT....

America died on Election night, 2006, when the media convinced the sheeple that 4.6% unemployment was “THE WORST ECONOMY SINCE THE GREAT DEPRESSION!”.

Last night was just the Post-Mortem.

Perspective please. Romney ran an absolutely awful campaign with 1 spectacular debate that kept him in striking distance.

Many of our Senatorial candidates were has-beens (Tommy Thompson), living in a sea of deep blue (Scott Brown) or just plain morons (Todd Akin).

So when we get past the grieving stage we will have tons of opportunities, starting in 2014, to take back the Senate and put a real Conservative on the ballot for 2016.

We have some awesome governors in the wings (fat man from NJ not withstanding), and after 8the years of this mess we can bury these liberal clowns for good.

Mourn and grieve as expected, and then lets get to taking back our country from these liberal fools.

Just my 2-cents.

“””””Indeed, the financial facts will dictate a new situation. Add in the soon to be nuclear Iranians and many other unforseen problems and it may force obamas hand in directions he never intended. It’s not the end of the world. Chin up!”””””””

Myself I look forward to a financial collapse sooner than later. My business is in a twilight zombie half life the last four years with a slow drip, drip of going out of business customers.

Crash it now like Iceland, put the bankers and politicians in jail like they did and the economy bounces back in a year or two and I will have the capital to make a go of it - 5 years from now that might be the case.
