Amid tense reactions to long lines and closures at metropolitan New York gas stations, federal authorities decided to request that the Defense Department deliver 24 million gallons of extra fuel to the area and lift restrictions on deliveries from foreign ships, the New York Times reported. The fuel shortage has been one of the most pronounced consequences of Superstorm Sandy.
The Defense Department will hire hundreds of trucks to deliver 12 million gallons each of gasoline and diesel fuel from commercial suppliers to staging areas in New Jersey. A delivery of that size would fill about 800,000 vehicles with 15-gallon tanks, estimates the New York Times.

A couple of days ago, the liberals in the media were so impressed at Obama’s response to this storm. Some compared to Bush and his alleged bungled response to Katrina.
Will the liberal media now focus on all of the problems which have come to light since Obama’s photo ops with Chris Christie????? Or will they ignore the story????
I was watching CNN earlier, and there was not a word about all of this. Then I went to Fox, and Fox was giving major coverage to the problems caused by Sandy. Is there media bias? You be the judge.
Media bias is not only liberal spin on things. Media bias is seen in the stories they push, vs. the stories they decide to ignore.
They still need electricity to pump it, and the unions have seen to it that it will be later rather than sooner.
I was shocked that they turned away non-union electrical workers from other states. In a crisis situation, do we really need to enforce these union laws and other regulations???
Allowing prices to move up would draw in all the gas they need.
The politicians and FEMA have been total FAIL
Why hasn’t the Obamessiah fixed the Sandy problems? It has been almost a week! /s
I have two ideas!
1) Completely shut down FEMA. Fire all employees and complete abolish it.
2) Contract with Wall Mart to formulate ration disaster relief plans and let them implement and supervise all disaster relief.
I bet Wall Mart employees could figure out how to get water, baby formula, diapers, blankets, food, gas, and generators to those who need it. And...Get the power on in, debris removed, cellars pumped, city services restored, and insurance forms filled out record time.
Well, maybe the military should help out with the water situation as well since FEMA won’t have any until Monday at the soonest and then when they get it, they have no idea how to get it distributed.
I bet Wall Mart could figure out how to get water and distribute in record time.
ridiculous.........use public transportation.....OR MAYBE EVEN WALK......
What they need is a Guiliani....
Leftist Agenda vs Human Life? The Leftists choose their Agenda every time.
Oh, here ‘ya go .... Geraldo scrambles to find a generator for his koi pond ....
I’ll be curious how these people deal with an EPA that won’t let them re-build on their own property, or take all that sand out of the streets, swimming pools, yards, etc and put it back on the beach.
The military really should be using this excess fuel to deliver ballots to the military personnel overseas.
Semi tankers typically hold 8,000-9,000 gals, not 12 million each. Something’s wrong with someone’s math.
