Most likely voters see the country as seriously offtrack; barely half say the president is doing a good job; and the challengers supporters rival the incumbents when it comes to being fired up, making for a precarious situation for President Obama as the election nears.
But it is no sure thing for Republican Mitt Romney, either, according to the latest release of the Washington Post-ABC News tracking poll.
In the new survey, 49 percent back Romney, and 48 percent Obama, marking the eighth consecutive day with both candidates at either 48 or 49 percent. The polls margin of sampling error is plus or minus three percentage points.

Depends on the meaning of "good".
We’re supposed to believe that 55% of the populace thinks we’re on the wrong track, but we’re tied in the polls.
We’re about to see how tied we are fellas. Hope you have plenty of egg containers around, but you’re going to be scraping them off your faces for months.
We’ll win... I was a little disturbed by Rasmussen but now I’m even more sure Romney will be our next President!
Let’s roll!
I believe the 55% is the figure to watch. And people who say the country is on “the wrong track” don’t vote for the incumbent.
Its not as close as the topline stat shows. People want change and they’re going to get it!
2 point swing. WaPo giveth what Ras took away. Chins up!
I know all of us here will be voting for the Liberal in this race.. ;)
As opposed to the Marxist? Yep.
I was a little disturbed too, but today's Rasmussen poll probably has some statistical noise. Keep the faith.
The momentum was just stalled. By weekend’s end, Romney will be back with a clear lead.
Tune into tonight’s Ohio rally (cspan). It should scare the crap out if Team Obama.
Wow. Did I ever need some good news.
Romney moving back into the lead is a HUGE development.
I had hoped the hurricane bounce was small and short-lived. This is the first evidence that this may indeed be the case.
Praying for continued movement in the right direction in this and the other polls.
Romney’s set to outspend Obama two to one in key states in the next few days.
Seeing tweets that rally is over 20k right now and it’s still over an hour away. Here’s a video link:

Romney isn’t my dream candidate either, but I would vote for him a million times before I’d vote for Obama. My formerly liberal sister, now a newly minted conservative, called me a year or so ago and asked me “Do you believe that Obama loves America? I don’t” She is excited to be voting for Romney in PA, and I believe there are millions like her out there. Let’s be positive!
Just remember, Rasmussen today was only a shift of about .4 total. O gained .2 which caused a round up. Romney lost .2 and caused a round down. Based on actual (to the decimal), Romney up 1.
Other than making us feel better, polls are worthless now. Especially national ones and even the states. Strategies and plans are set. Issues are defined. It’s about closing arguments and GOTV.
