I’m hearing nothing of the sort.I live in Brooklyn,i have friends and family on Staten Island. I would have heard something from any number of sources.
I know they have it bad and they were blasted but nothing about hand to hand end of the world zombie apocalypse.

I have a friend who is doing relief work on Staten Island near Fort Wadsworth, I spoke with them this morning and the scene you describe is far from accurate.

Bloomberg has stolen three huge generators ...

Claptrap. The generators were reserved for the marathon in advance and the rental fees paid by the New York Road Runners association, which organizes the marathon.

If that group wished to donate the generators for another use, that would be extremely generous of them, but the idea that failing to give others something you have paid for is "stealing" is Barack Obama thinking.

Articles said the generators were powering the media setup for the marathon. It would be funny if the organizers contributed the generators to relief efforts and let the media go without power!

Is S.I. shut down? If one has a truck (and gas) can one get in and out?

A friend who is deployed has elderly parents there. I proposed to him that I go and get them. Its a few hours away

We organized a Berlin Airlift.

Why not Staten Island???

Helicopter drops of food, medicine, etal in some designated areas where a volunteer ground crew distributes the supplies in an orderly fashion.

What's so complicated about that? It should have been started already.

This is ridiculous.....and frightening.

Welcome to Obama's Futureland now in effect in New York.....and then coming soon to a neighborhood near you.

all we need now is :

1) people crapping where they are sleeping

2) people walking past and ignoring dead bodies

3) Mayor Bloomberg to declare it a “Chocolate City”

and we will have Katrina II

Fighting for food....that cannot be. I heard MSNBC making fun of Romney for providing cans of food and water. They said they were not needed and Romney was a fool. You get what you vote for people.

Did you write this “news release” yourself, or are you quoting Fox News? Bloomberg, as bad as he is, hasn’t “stolen” generators. A private company rented them (before the disaster) for a marathon. They are private property, and Bloomberg will have to compensate the owners if he does indeed take the generators at some point.

I’m also skeptical about the dumpster diving reports. From what I understand, a grocery store dumped water damaged groceries. I assume some of the food was undamaged beyond the packaging. Were the people dumpster diving because they were starving (seems unlikely after only a couple of days), or were they really just taking advantage of the free food?

How dumb do you have to be under these circumstances not to have a couple weeks of food squirreled away?

After Katrina, they had Bush to blame. In New York, there is no Republican anywhere in sight to blame. Who will they blame now? (bloomerberg is a Rino).

I've been thinking a lot about the reports of people begging for help and as much as you hear the media and elected officials telling you to prepare, unless you've lived through one of these, you really don't know exactly how to prepare. My heart goes out to those who thought they knew what they were in for and found out it was much, much worse.

With that in mind, their suffering and anger is only just beginning and they don't even know it yet. Their insurance companies will fight their claims every step of the way. Their elected officials will be of no help to them and to add insult to injury, when all is said and done, they will be handed astronomical increases in premiums to make up for the losses the companies had to pay to those who had the means to retain counsel and fight to have their claims paid.

In short, there's going to be a lot more anger for years to come.

Aid is beginning to arrive. Dozens of people lined up for free dry ice Thursday and the Red Cross started handing out ready-to-eat meals. But some say that's not enough.

"It's great that it's something, but I honestly expected maybe like a blanket," a resident said. "How long is this going to last? I mean, it's just a joke."

I have yet to see Obama swoop in and save these people.

Just how Blue is Staten Island?

Yes but Mayor Bammyberg endorsed big O and the NYC marathon is still on. Rejoice comrades—the workers paradise moves ‘FORWARD’. Bear your trifle inconveniences for the motherland—Manhattan, that is.

Politicians actually cause shortages by outlawing free-market pricing during a crisis. As is so often the case, their ill-advised legislation hurts the very people the politicians claimed to be helping.

Anyone who condemns "gouging" generally fails to understand that free-market pricing works to efficiently and effectively ration scarce resources and increase the available supplies.

No one can argue that this nation's eventual downfall will be largely attributable to widespread, willful IGNORANCE of basic economics and civics as well as the triumph of emotion over reason.
