Many people live on high floors. The stairwells are completely dark. If you are elderly or disabled, you can’t walk down 20 flights of stairs, especially if your flashlight battery has died.
I expect that when the power comes back on, they will find a few dead bodies in some of those apartments
True. This will be especially hard on the elderly.
Finally, a comment that isn't rushing to judgement of these people. How hard can it be to have a little compassion? Not everyone is blessed with the intelligence or physical abilities to cope.
Y'know, I do feel sorry for the elderly and the disabled. On the other hand, this is what family is, or used to be, for. I can't imagine leaving my 88 year old mother to fend for herself after a hurricane.
Of course, I can't imagine leaving her to live by herself in one of those places to begin with.
Well aware of that, but it sure looks like Manhattan is getting most of the attention, resources wise. Looks like those on Staten Island and out along the beach areas are the redheaded step children in all of this. (Just my perspective from a couple miles outside of the city.)
