A 3-year-old basset hound named Buddy has died after being deliberately set on fire in a ravine outside Camarillo, authorities said Tuesday.
A neighbor in Camarillo Heights spotted a small blaze about 3:20 a.m. Saturday and called the Ventura County Fire Department. When firefighters arrived, they found Buddy severely burned.
Arson investigators discovered evidence that someone had poured lighter fluid on the dog, according to a news release from the Ventura County Sheriff's Office.
No arrests have been made. Buddy's owner, who was interviewed by investigators, was not identified.
A $1,000 reward is being offered for information leading to an arrest.

Disgusting animals did this.
They little bastards (because its gonna be teenage boys) need to come to Maryland because city juries seem to think setting animals on fire is perfectly fine with one of the yoots here does it. Never can get a conviction on these cases here and it’s sickening.
Poor dog. What a vicious way to die.
There should be a special place in hell for people and I hate to use that term loosly for those that harm animals for the sheer joy of it.
I can only hope that this perpetrator gets back what he gave to that poor dog.
A special place in hell.
Future serial killer. Parents need to start sleeping in shifts with the bedroom door locked...
When the Democrat Party encourage the murder of human beings,
how easy is it for brainwashed youth to believe it is OK to murder animals.I own a Basset Hound, they are nothing but lovable.
I cried when I heard this story this morning. A beautiful, elderly Bassett named “Beethnoven” just died in my neighborhood.
Anyone who does this to an innocent dog would do this to a human too!!
It gets worse. Just head during Rush’s show that the Bassett died..
Send the little bastards my way, my pit bull and Shih-Tzu don’t like animal abusers and neither do I.
Moderator, this title should say Set ON Fire, not Set OF Fire....
> Disgusting animals did this.
Please do not offend animals by associating them with these feral, foaming demons.
> Poor dog. What a vicious way to die.
I can’t imagine it. I just can’t. We love our dog. He’s a member of the family. I would defend him with my life, if need be, as I’m sure he would defend me.
Ugh! This is beyond sickening!
We have a basset who lives right behind us who is such a sweetheart. When I do the gardening, he comes over and we have a chat through the fence. Great dogs.
GOD knows when a sparrow falls. HE knows all about the sinful and purposely evil acts perpetrated against men, women, children, and even his creatures.
A month or so ago, in Pennsylvania, a horse was doused with lighter fluid and burned, but last I heard he survived and is being treated. No suspects. I wonder if the perp is now in California?
” I own a Basset Hound, they are nothing but lovable.”
I owned one too, and would PAY to get my hands on whoever did this.
I have 3. Oh, what a horrible thing to do to those silly dogs.
Camarillo is a good area too. My guess? A couple of drunken teens.
Many serial killers begin by torturing and killing animals.
Doing this to a dog isn’t just a prank - its a sign of a very dangerous mind.
I hope someone pays the hellion who did this back in spades. I know I would if I caught him.
Evil. Absolutely nothing surprises me anymore.
Someone who would do this has the potential for being a serial killer. Hope they find the guilty person/s and make up a profile on them.
