NEW YORK (AP) Millions of people from Maine to the Carolinas awoke Tuesday without electricity, and an eerily quiet New York City was all but closed off by car, train and air as superstorm Sandy steamed inland, still delivering punishing wind and rain. The U.S. death toll climbed to 38, many of the victims killed by falling trees.
The full extent of the damage in New Jersey, where the storm roared ashore Monday night with hurricane-force winds of 80 mph, was unclear. Police and fire officials, some with their own departments flooded, fanned out to rescue hundreds.

PING!
As in bad storms past, relief from other states for food, water, electrical repair, etc. is on the way.
Did you see the I don’t want to hear anymore about Sandy Thread in which some FReepers were posting about they really didn’t care how much damage and misery Sandy had done to the people of the NE, before the Mods pulled it?
Don't mean to minimize the damage (I live on the East Coast in the middle of Sandy's path) but it seems that the MSM is fixated on the hurricane as the single most disruptive event in our history. My concern is that the calculating current occupant of the WH, seeing his dwindling re-election chances, might take unprecedented steps that would "temporarily" postpone the elections.
And once that sacred threshold has been crossed, all bets are off as to what could follow. Amidst the chaos and the threat posed by "socially disruptive and possibly violent extremist factions" (such as Freepers), there will be calls for strong measures. What would prevent the institution of Martial Law?
One could easily imagine the MSM fully supporting such actions despite the lack of Constitutional authority, praising the President's leadership, assuring us that "present circumstances require decisive action," which is in fact being taken to "protect the democratic process."
Thoughts?
May our Lord God and Savior Jesus Christ bring help and healing to all affected by this storm! May He open our hearts in compassion to assist the storm victims in any way we can. Lord have mercy!!!!
plenty of homes available to repopulate New Orleans....
At home in bed with the power out and the wind blowing, a tree fell over and landed directly over the bedroom ceiling; luckily the roof held, or that would have been the end of Jack Hammer...
God gave Noah
the rainbow sign—
No more water.
The fire next time.

Next thing you know they’ll try to run for Senate and wonder why they lost.
Amen.
And get on Homeland Security's prepper/terrorist watchlist? The Democrats are the only source of help for the masses... you know that!
/sarcasm off
Lots of damage here in northeast PA. Life and limb ok. Thank God!
Nice. Thank you. Did you write that?
Yup. Makes you think, doesn’t it?
They didn't hype the storm to postpone elections, but they did hype the storm to sell more soap powder and sell their Hero who heals the nation while the other guy only tears it down. Just wove it into the narrative, that's all.
