Former White Sox catcher Carlton Fisk has been charged with DUI after police in New Lenox said they found him passed out in a pickup truck in a farm field.

Fisk, 64, was at the wheel with the engine running when police arrived around 7:25 p.m. Monday, according to Deputy Chief Bob Pawlisz. Fisk was disoriented when officers woke him, and he declined a blood-alcohol test. An open 1.75-liter bottle of liquor also was in the car, Pawlisz said.

Fisk was treated at Silver Cross Hospital and released Tuesday morning after posting bail and is scheduled to appear in Will County court Nov. 29.

In addition to DUI, Fisk was charged with improper lane use and illegal transport of alcohol.

Police began receiving calls about a truck in the field at Gougar and Spencer roads, near Lincoln-Way West High School, at 7:22 p.m., Pawlisz said. They found the Ford F-150 with a flat tire, he said, adding there was no damage to the vehicle beyond "what might have occurred driving through a ditch."

Fisk provided a Florida address to police. Records show Fisk previously lived in New Lenox, but authorities said they did not know why he was there Monday.

Fisk, a member of the Baseball Hall of Fame, played the last 13 seasons of his 24-year career with the White Sox, retiring in 1993.

huh....you can get a DUI in a farm field?

Guess so. I once got a ticket for doing 42 in a 35 cornfield in Ohio.

I can remember where I was on that October night 37 years ago. I was a 13-year-old boy watching Game 6 on TV with my family - just about four miles north of where this game took place in a city called Revere.

That sure was a long way from a cornfield in Illinois.

I'll tell ya, New Lenox is known for giving out DUI's. They probably have the highest per capita issuance.

Steer clear of this place, they;ll even take a HOF catcher (for the White Sox no less) right out of the field of dreams for that good, DUI court money and fees to the lawyers.

Fisk is the dream bust. High visibility and monied. Law enforcement retirement funds wrapped up all in one.

After having lived for almost 12 years in Will County, I find it quite hilarious that he was ticketed for “illegal use of lanes”.

What, he couldn’t keep it between the furrows?

I feel for ‘Pudge’. But I can't say I'm surprised.

During his last year or so with the White Sox there was an article in the Trib on him and how he was one of the last 'old school ballplayers'. Which said (and meant) that after the game he'd 'have a few beers in the clubhouse' before leaving. And during that time talk to the younger players on their game and how to get a bit better. And you can't do all that drinking for decades and not eventually get into some trouble involving booze.

Heck look back at Mickey Mantle a raging alcoholic. But back then the press, and cops, covered up for our Sports 'Heroes' (and even for a certain dead Bears RB from the 80's).

Police make arrests; judges collect money; States collect fines; Rehab Houses make money: everybody wins!

I will never slow down.
