Why Sandy Has Meteorologists Scared in 4 Images
She's huge. She's strong and might get stronger. She's strange. She's directing the might of her storm surge right at New York City.Hurricane Sandy has already caused her first damage in New York: the subway system will be shut as of 7pm tonight. Meteorologists are scared, so city planners are scared.

Dr. Ryan Maue, a meteorologist at WeatherBELL, put out this animated GIF of the storm's approach yesterday. "This is unprecedented --absolutely stunning upper-level configuration pinwheeling #Sandy on-shore like ping-pong ball," he tweeted. It shows how cold air to the north and west of the storm spin Sandy into the mid-atlantic coastline. (Nota bene: his models also show very high winds at skyscraper altitudes.)

Is there a live thread on this storm? Stay safe everyone.
Take your lithium.
The storm is WAY to dangerous and a threat to America. We MUST urge the president to declare martial law and assume total and complete control of the nation. For our own sake.
A mere presidential election can be put off for a while. Perhaps a year or two until things get back in order!
All hail the messiah

The path to the new socialist motherland
Our savior, our savior

Sorry, forgot the snark tag. I live near Philthy, winds starting to pick up as I type.
Found this link very handy - the eye has started the turn into the coastline:
The eye is already moving westward towards the Jersey coastline.
NYC: Not to worry. Mayor Bloomturd has just passed an emergency bill forbidding waves of 16 ft and over. He will, however, allow two 8 ft wakes but not at the same time.
Boy, dummy is really on this.
You just cannot image what I’m picturing of the mayor and a big wave, like that in “The Last Wave”.
Have fun folks - gonna grab some shut-eye. Catch up tomorrow if I have power! ;^)
Stay safe, all.
“Take a look at the sea levels around NYC - then tell me when you would like to plan for the safety of the 8-12 Million folk in NYC. “
OK, that is easy. Everyone should get more than a couple blocks away from any body of water connected to the ocean. Stay inside and away from windows in case some debris gets picked up by the wind. What else is there to know? Since people don’t actually live in the sea, so you can ignore 99% of the colored areas on that map.
Lower Manhattan after hurricane Donna in 1960.
WHats the storms LAST name again... Hurricane Sandy BENGAZI?.....
70 to 80 miles an hour winds are a popcorn fart..
MAybe some beach erosion.. blown down trees.. a lot of rain..
BUT shutting down the SUBWAYS!... very very suspicious..
Seems to be a “TELL” like in poker.. the liberals are OVER ACTING..
Hypocrisy on steroids, Kabuki Theater Catastrophe, Political Boondoggle, a crisis NOT TO BE WASTED..
AND THE RUBES SEEM TO BE BUYING IT!...
Actually it's not. The subway tunnels are deep underground and are below the water table. Pumps constantly run to keep the system dry. They are not designed to handle floodingz and storm surge. Last year during Irene many of the tunnels were flooded.
Great link. Thanks.
Those winds blowing around skyscrapers will be magnified greatly, you could even have winds blowing in every direction due to the manmade topography. Could have 1,000s of blown out windows raining shards of glass down below.
Here you are again, joking and degrading about this storm on yet another thread. Are you just getting your rocks off by demeaning all of this, or what...?
You've already started in, and there hasn't been a single alarmist post. Are you simply incapable of participating in an adult conversation about this topic, or are you just that demented?
Geeez Louise, give it a rest!
