Vice President Joe Biden earned ridicule from foes Saturday when he twice referred to the Democratic Virginia Senate candidate by the wrong first name.
Biden began his remarks to an enthusiastic crowd of about 1,500 at the Lynchburg Armory by praising former Gov. Tim Kaine with the correct name but later declared two times that he is "a big Tom Kaine fan."
Kaine is running against Republican George Allen for the seat vacated by Democrat Sen. Jim Webb, who is retiring. The vice president went on to offer similar compliments for ex-Rep. Tom Perriello, whose first name is Tom.
A Mitt Romney campaign spokesman immediately highlighted the error.
Vice President Biden forgot the name of his own Virginia Democratic Senate nominee and he wants voters to forget about President Obamas failed economic policies and lack of a real agenda for a second term," Ryan Williams wrote in a campaign statement.
In Lynchburg, Biden also accused Republicans of hoping for lapses of memory. "They're counting on the American people to have an overwhelming case of amnesia on November the 6th," he said.
Obama campaign spokesperson Lis Smith also responded. "Once again, Mitt Romneys campaign is showing their focus on the big things like one letter in Tim Kaine's name," Smith said. "If they put as much time and effort into their policies, maybe we'd finally have an answer for how they'd pay for $5 trillion in tax cuts weighted to the very wealthy."
Kaine, the victim of the flub, responded in a tongue-in-cheeck tweet later Saturday.

Robert Reich, stand up!, oops........
Tom Kean was governor of New Jersey from 1982 to 1990. Biden undoubtedly is old enough to remember him.
Silly gaffe and yes it could happen to anyone, especially Joe O'biden.
But the headline from NBC is the real story. "GOPpounces on Biden flub..." The implication is clear. "Pounces" is a word intended to portray the GOP as an animal of prey. Those mean old Republicans are at it again, savaging the opposition. The media will do it every time and the Romney spokesman should keep his mouth shut unless it is a serious gaffe.
She has a point. We should focus on the small things like Benghazi.
and yes, I am being sarcastic
Stand up Chuck, awe god lovya...lets stand up for Chuck...did your son always have balls the size of Cue Balls Senator Tom?
“Tim” has 3 letters, including one vowel.
Biden had a 20% chance to guess the correct vowel, he guessed wrong.
Biden messed up the only vowel in the name “Tim”, Biden was 100 % wrong on the vowel.
Sir Gaffe-Alot continues in his quixotic quest on behalf of his liege lord Sultan Hussein.
A real leader would use his stand down order on Biden. The man has dementia, for Pete sakes!
Don’t worry, FDR will just get on tv and tell us all that Ol’ Joe has got it all under control.
