The security officer had a laser on the target that was firing and repeatedly requested back-up support from a Specter gunship, which is commonly used by U.S. Special Operations forces to provide support to Special Operations teams on the ground involved in intense firefights. The fighting at the CIA annex went on for more than four hours — enough time for any planes based in Sigonella Air base, just 480 miles away, to arrive. 2 drones and a possible AC-130 Gunship.... but, I am leaning to the fact that there was a AC-130 Gunship in the air because otherwise that security officer would not have been focusing his laser on a target.
He would not have put himself in a more vulnerable position if he knew that there was not air support in the air.

I’m not military so I don’t know that stuff. That’s why I ask other people about it. And thankfully, they answer so I can learn something. =)

If one of the drones had a hellfire, that could have been used on the target that was marked with the laser, right? I’m trying to understand this. The very fact that we had 2 drones that were in Libyan airpsace says that we either had permission to fly there or didn’t bother to ask before sending in the drones. How likely is it that at least one of those drones had hellfires?

Remember too that Obama was not just willing to watch 4 people die....there were almost 40 people in that consulate or mission(CIA post)!! I agree with you.... but perhaps as this story develops more details come out.
But, I still do not believe that that Ex-Navy Seal was focusing his laser on a target just to get his tingles on.

He was focusing that laser on his target for a reason and IF ? he knew there was not any air support close by there would have been no logical point to even try to acquire a target.
Since he had his laser focused on a target that most likely means there was air assets in the sky at the time close by.

I have read that our aircraft were 485 miles away. That is less than an hour for fighters. This whole ordeal from the first attack took something like 11 hours.

Yet, Def Sec Panetta said "the attack happened over a few hours and was over before the U.S. had the chance to know what was happening."
