I understand how many Freepers are upset about the state of immigration in this country, but unless there was gunfire coming from the vehicle I don’t understand how a sharpshooter in a helicopter would feel justified opening fire.
I could even understand the Hollywood-style “shoot the tires”, but even that has risks.
I’ll withhold judgement until more facts are available, but given what we know, it doesn’t look justified.

LOL!
No, they don't.
The Constitution allows for concurrent jurisdiction by the federal authority at points of entry and a requirement to assist a State to repel invasions or suppress insurrection and rebellions only at the request OF the State.
This contemporary meme that the federal government has any legitimate delegated authority to 'protect our borders' is a steaming pile of horseshit.
The States are obligated to protect their OWN borders, and if folks don't like the fact Texas happened to shoot foreign trespassers from a helicopter.....tough!

I think the proper way to frame this is to wonder what would happen to a citizen who was shot at from and returned fire to a vehicle full of illegal immigrants, killing a couple.
I don’t think we want police sharpshooters in helicopters shooting at cars, even illegal immigrants cars. Maybe it’s just me.
“U. S. Citizens are a patient people. Enough is enough.”
I have little problem with this if it actually is a US citizen is defending themselves and their property with lethal force.
I don’t think a police sharpshooter in a helicopter shooting at people in a speeding vehicle is quite what we want happening in America.
DPS troopers are the only law enforcement in the Rio Grande Valley region permitted to open fire during chases.
A little more of that kind of thing and we could see our border and illegal aliens problems diminish.
Works for me. Criminals shouldn't complain if they have to deal with the consequences of their illegal activity.
I wish people would raise as much of an uproar when illegals kill American citizens.
It'd be good to have "the border" BECOME a military base/reserve, about half a mile wide.
They were fleeing arrest. Their death was the result of their attempt to evade capture.
Their deaths are no biggie
“They were fleeing arrest. Their death was the result of their attempt to evade capture. Their deaths are no biggie”
Oh, it’s a biggie. It directly leads to police shooting people who do not cooperate to their satisfaction.
Imagine all the incidents of Taser misuse - but replace “taser” with “Shotgun”.
It’s definitely a biggie.
“Works for me. Criminals shouldn’t complain if they have to deal with the consequences of their illegal activity.”
It’s far from apparent that the folks shot were criminals, unless the sharpshooter could see that all of them were shooting at him, and that none of them had green cards.
You cannot shoot someone just because you think they might be a criminal, which cannot be established in this case until the bodies are tagged and bagged.
This is a result of decades of federal policy, or non-policy as it were.
NICE shootin’ Tex!
“We can shoot invaders.”
Bing...Bing...Bing! We have a winner!
Thank you! You'd think everyone would pause long enough from the squeal-fest to realize these are the same people who come in and bleed our country dry...both financially and physically.
IMHO - Texas used the best piece of equipment for the job - one that would endanger far fewer lives than a car chase ever could.
Had they pulled over when instructed and identified themselves as such, they wouldn't be dead now.
I am becoming more ashamed that American citizens are willing to, not only let the invasion of the United States continue, encourage further invasion by demonstrating a weakness toward the invaders.
Nine adult men in a speeding vehicle evading police. What could go wrong here?
Tell me, what’s your take if the vehicle rolls and six of those people are killed? What’s your take if that speeding vehicle impacts a vehicle with a family of five in it, the parents and two of the kids are killed?
Is that going to be the fault of the authorities too? Yes, it will be.
There is more at play here than you seem to want to think about.
There have been countless hour long pursuits on the streets in our region. If the officers can take the drives out from the air, I’m all for it.
Why should another citizen(s) have to die, just because we need to be nice to the person endangering everyone on the road around them?
amen
Thanks Bert.
