In the wake of Sunday's deadly shooting at a Brookfield spa, Wisconsin lawmakers say they will push legislation aimed at keeping guns out of the hands of batterers in domestic abuse cases.
State Rep. Jon Richards (D-Milwaukee) said Tuesday that he would work with advocates to draft a bill that would bar firearm sales to people under restraining orders, let police remove guns from the scene of a domestic violence incident, and allow courts and prosecutors to know if a batterer has a permit to carry a concealed weapon.
Sen. Lena Taylor (D-Milwaukee) and Rep. Penny Bernard Schaber (D-Appleton) said they would reintroduce a bill that failed in the 2009-'10 legislative session that would force abusers, who must surrender their guns as part of any restraining order, to prove they've complied.
"I hope and expect that this will be a bipartisan issue," Richards said.
Radcliffe Haughton stormed the Azana Salon & Spa on Sunday, fatally shooting his estranged wife, Zina, and her co-workers Cary Robuck of Racine and Maelyn Lind of Merton, three days after receiving a restraining order that barred him from possessing a firearm.

Nope, I don’t see any way this could be used to abuse average folks in any way. Good job, legislators!
I actually suggested this to a woman who works at a "domestic abuse shelter" (as if a bunch of unarmed yentas could shelter anybody). I even offered to pay for the first handgun, and told her I'd buy one just like the one I carry.
She had a look on her face that made me think she was in the process of peeing in her pants. True dyed-in-the-wool hoplophobe.
More gun control is not the answer. It is people who murder not guns.
Funny when there is a black criminal, the story usually falls from the headlines pretty quickly. Once this guy was known to be black, it wasn’t national news anymore, was it? /rhetorical
—maybe have had something to do with his getting away with no charges after apparently pointing a rifle at his wife as cops observed a domestic dispute call, also-—
Oh... I did not know that. Thnks.
