Debates deliver favorability edge to Romney

BOCA RATON, Fla. — Mitt Romney crossed a major threshold early this week, moving above 50 percent in his favorability rating, according to the Real Clear Politics average of polls — and, for the first time in the campaign, he now leads President Obama on that measure.

The Republican presidential nominee has clearly benefitted from the debates. He had a 44.5 percent favorability rating at the end of September, before the debates. But by Monday, when he and Mr. Obama faced off for the final debate of the campaign, Mr. Romney’s favorability average was up at 50.5 percent.

“He’s did a great job humanizing himself in the first debate and seeming presidential in the second debate,” said Republican pollster Mike McKenna, who said the debate performances punctured Mr. Obama’s campaign-long strategy of trying to disqualify Mr. Romney in the minds of voters.

The Romney effort to seem measured continued on Monday in the third and final matchup between the two men. That debate was dedicated to foreign policy, and he batted away the president’s attacks, at one point accusing Mr. Obama of having little else.

“Attacking me is not an agenda,” the Republican said.

Yep. With the low information, zero focus voters who are still undecided at this point (”I vote for the person, not the ideology”) likability is all that matters. The false persona created and advanced by Barack 0abama, his handlers, and the press was based entirely on his invincibility and charm. Once the myth of unbeatability was punctured, he had no choice but to go negative, and once he went negative, low IQ voters saw that he had no charm, either.

I started supporting Mitt because he was our last hope to get rid of Obama. These days I’m enthusiastic in my support and have opened my wallet. Looks like common sense is winning and the difference that so many had trouble seeing is making itself clear. As my yard sign (still standing even though someone threw a full Dr. Pepper can at it and missed-hope they were thirsty) says: ROMNEY/RYAN!

Yes, but a month ago the media told us the debates would not matter! They would help no one make up their mind and change no one’s mind.

And if media types said it, it MUST be true!

"He's did a great job"

Watching Pres. O in three debates has dumbed down even this Republican.

0bama is an angry, petulant, narcissitic, and rude man. Romney comes across as Ward Cleaver. Romney made a smart move by not going for the jugular. I think he picked up a lot of womens’ votes last night.

Many here decried Romney's debate strategy on the final debate, but in my view, he played it quite masterfully. His final debate performance works hand in hand with his first performance, which was the main game-changer in this cycle.

The first debate completely shattered the Democrats' meme, the negative myth they built around him, which cost the Dems a lot of time and money. The final debate, while the final results aren't in the public eye yet, may well have just "sealed the deal".

Game, set, match, Romney...
