Original title: Romney won the presidential debate by looking presidential. Obama had a painful case of Biden's smile
-----------------------------------------
Romney won the third presidential debate and how he did it was encapsulated in a single exchange. The candidates were discussing military spending and Romney had just accused Obama of making harmful cutbacks. The President wheeled out what must have seemed like a great, pre-planned zinger: I think Governor Romney maybe hasn't spent enough time looking at how our military works. You mentioned the navy, for example, and that we have fewer ships than we did in 1916. Well, governor, we also have fewer horses and bayonets because the nature of our military's changed. The audience laughed, Obama laughed, I laughed. It was funny.
But heres why it was also a vote loser. For a start, Twitter immediately lit up with examples of how the US Army does still use horses and bayonets (horses were used during the invasion of Afghanistan). More importantly, this was one example of many in which the President insulted, patronised and mocked his opponent rather than put across a constructive argument. His performance was rude and unpresidential. Obama seemed to have a touch of the Bidens, wriggling about in his chair, waving his hands dismissively and always always smirking in Romneys direction. By contrast, Romney sucked up the abuse and retained a rigid poker face all night. He looked like a Commander in Chief; Obama looked like a lawyer. Who would you rather vote for?

Barry reminded me of an angry Chicago community organizer.
Obama had a painful...for Bob Schieffer which won’t subside for another 3 hours. Please call his doctor.
I happen to agree.
I thought the “horses and bayonets” was lame. And Obama looked like he couldn’t treat his opponent with respect.
Romney looked presidential, graceful and never once got flustered.
If body language communicated anything - one person will be our next President tonight.
His name is Mitt Williard Romney.
As someone else pointed out, Obama has now had all three debates in which he has failed to outline a second-term strategy, policy or plan. He no longer has any chance to do so.
And as Romney said: “Attacking me is not a policy.”
One of Romney’s best arguments was the line “Attacking me is not a policy”. It was a slap in Obamas face and a reminder to the folks at home that this is about real lives, real jobs, and their children’s future - not about “debate points”.
Romney painted a very solid big-picture view and was Presidential. Obama attacked and rambled on about small things, like his usual litany of “wind, solar, and biofuels” and “lithium batteries”, “more teachers”, and “green jobs”. All of which are either the domain of private business, local government, or pure fantasy.
And while Obama wanted to challenge facts, the fact is, Romney was right about sequester, status of forces agreement, and his condescending BS about bayonets and submarines.
Obama was wrong, is wrong, and in another 2 weeks, will be out of a job.
I’m voting for Willard Mitt Romney...
I swear Obama was trying some form of Hawaiian Islands “stink eye” or something, its a particular evil eye given to someone, I may be wrong but thats what I have heard.
Disagree. Think federal judges and US Supreme Court nominees. Obama’s two appointments: Kagan and Sotomayor are terrible.
Obama's silly lecture lacked substance, like a child calling someone names, Obama had nothing intellegent to say, just a lot of criticism of Romney
“Horse Soldiers”
Excellent Read about the use of horses in Afghanistan.
I agree. He was really giving Romney some super odd looks. Somewhere between mad and mocking, and yet mostly just goofy looking smirks.
He’d also look back and forth, and blinked a lot. Nixon used to blink a lot.
Petulant jackass.
What for me was most noticeable about Obama in these debates was how all-American and patriotic he attempted to appear. No talk about the Constitution being a flawed document, no references to past injustices (unless I missed something), no indications of his real views which he revealed in his books and in 2008. All false, needless to say, and the people who call themselves “Progressives” must have noticed, and winked to one another - he’s fooling them again on the road to socialist Utopia.
I know. I remember when it happened the last time.
I believe that our W.W.II debt was paid off with the help of inflation.. I remember back then when a loaf of bread was $0.25, a hair cut $0.75, and a cold glass bottle of Coca-Cola out of a machine was a nickel -- and just today I saw an ad for a 2013 VW Beetle lease: $1,999 up front and $299 / month. In 1968 I bought a brand new VW beetle for $1,999!
We'll survive.. unless things get out of hand like in the Weimar Republic. :)
Bamma tried to hold an over-rehearsed ‘evil-eye stare’ but came across just looking Punky.
His trainers clearly fed him peanuts to reinforce his pseudo-steady stare in a belated attempt to compensate for his grossly stultified first debate (lack of) performance ....
Bamma, you are a punky Punk Putz - so there!
its Willard Mitt Romney
