President Romney
The Weekly Standard ^ | 10/22/12 | WILLIAM KRISTOL

Posted on 10/22/2012 8:00:24 PM PDT by markomalley

Mitt Romney is more than holding his own with Barack Obama tonight. Only two other challengers have done as well debating foreign policy with an incumbent president—Ronald Reagan against Jimmy Carter in 1980 and, to a lesser degree, Bill Clinton against George H.W. Bush in 1992. Reagan and Clinton won. Romney is now on track to becoming the third challenger to win in the last 32 years—and the first in 80 years to defeat an incumbent who didn't have a primary challenge. Tonight, Romney seems as fully capable as—probably more capable than—Barack Obama of being the next president. He probably will be.

I agree its going to be President Romney.

He could have slept through tonight’s debate and still won the race. All the liberal talking points don’t change the direction of this 2012 election.

Again, its the economy, stupid.

Romney had the best arguments rationally, although the un-informed might be confused by Obama’s performance.

Non-verbally Romney clearly won.

Obama hunched in his chair and moved with jerks and twitches, suggesting that he felt threatened.

Obama stared awkwardly at Romney - almost like an “evil eye” stare. The bags under his eyes made him look perplexed.

Obama often acted snippy and frustrated instead of presidential. He came off like a political hack who isn’t up to the job.

Romney on the other hand sat up with commanding posture, didn’t seem flustered by the lies hurled at him and held his own in refuting the president’s attacks.

65 percent of communication is nonverbal and Romney projected that he is comfortable with the high stakes of running the country.

All Romney had to do was show he could hold his own against Obama on foreign policy and not look like he was going to start another war. That alone knocks the legs out of Obambi’s argument that Mitt is a far right loon.

I’m sure the MSM gives the debate to Obama on points but Obama’s whole campaign hinges on independents seeing Romney as a threat. I don’t see it.
Which isn’t to say I think Romney is the man for the job, we really needed Gingrich to make our argument.

Obama has looked diminished, small and aged since he lost that first debate.

He need to score a KO tonight or hope for a Romney meltdown. It didn’t happen.

I don’t think Romney is going to lose much since he wanted to look presidential and he succeeded in that objective and people can see him being in the White House.

I called the election last week and tonight’s debate didn’t change the ground game.

Romney killed it tonight, especially when it came to the economy. I’ve never seen a candidate that understands the macroeconomy better than Romney.

James Carville seems to miss the fact the No 1. issue in this election is the economy.

All is purely secondary. The Democrats are desperate. I understand their pain. When you have a bad economy, one thing always happens!

Carville should know.

Carville does know. Remember, he’s the one who coined “it’s the economy stupid.” He knows Obama will lose. He’s all bluff tonite.

Just once, I wanted to see Romney turn to the crowd, nod his head at Zero and say, ‘Interruptions, distortions, insecurity, pettiness...’ shakes head, ‘Do you want this man negotiating upon your behalf with foreign leaders? Do you really think they should take him seriously? Don’t you want America taken seriously?’

Carville didn’t see the same debate I did. Romeny looked presidnetial and stood toe-to-toe with Obama. In a foreign policy debate, that means he won when sitting next to the sitting Commander-in-Chief.
