Just 50 years after ending its notorious segregation policy, Ole Miss finally has a black homecoming queen. The school just crowned Courtney Roxanne Pearson as their queen, with the student receiving the crowning during the halftime ceremonies of the Ole Miss-Auburn football game.
“I am still in shock, but I am definitely very excited,” said Pearson.

Hey come on now. Home Coming Queen contest is just a first step toward Miss America.
Wow, a lot of douchey comments here. Did it occur to anyone that while yea, she is rather large, she could be well loved and popular and that is why she won? I know a couple of rather large women whose personalities are so attractive and so loved, if by a popular vote, they could probably win Ms. America. Anyway, homecoming isn’t a beauty contest, it is choosing someone to represent that class, and that usually means the most popular, outgoing person.
The proud dad! How cool this came on the 50th anniversary of racist democrats finally being forced to admit people of color to the school. What a great girl. If you get a chance, watch her interview: She knows her football and does in fact have a great personality.
This is a Homecoming Queen competition (looks usually come into play), not a popularity or oratory contest. I am okay with a black woman winning...but damn, chose one that looks like Halle Berry or Stacey Dash.
At first I had to look and make sure thery weren’t talking about Big Miss. LOL
By the way. I am sure she is a sweet gal. She just isn’t in the mold of the skinny Homecoming Queen we have been used to seeing.

Her father looks extremely proud and happy, and she has a sweet expression. Why shouldn’t her friends and supporters elect her as Homecoming Queen? Anyone who doesn’t like it could have voted for the other young lady, or could have proposed another candidate.
The vote was 1400 to 1200.

Neither do you. You have no idea if she was elected because she is an especially good person, or just for racial reasons.
The one thing that IS very evident is that she is very physically unattractive (at least to normal heterosexual males).
I wonder who Shep Smith would have voted for?
My point in posting this thread wasn’t to invite people to bash her looks, but to point out the focus on race that is the obsession of the media.
Of course, we never seem to demand that historically BLACK institutions open up to whites. Remember a few years ago when a white congressman with a large number of blacks in his district was denied admission to the Congressional Black Caucus?
I am sure this young lady is a lovely person.
