Obama leads in Florida by 1 point (SurveyUSA)
Survey USA ^ | 10/20/2012

Posted on 10/20/2012 5:25:33 PM PDT by Joe27

In an election for President of the United States in Florida today, 10/19/12, Barack Obama is a nominal, statistically insignificant, single point ahead of Mitt Romney, 47% to 46%, according to a SurveyUSA poll conducted for WFLA-TV in Tampa. Compared to an identical SurveyUSA poll 5 weeks ago, Romney is up 2 points, Obama is down 1 point. Florida's critical 29 electoral votes remain up for grabs, 18 days till votes are counted. Romney has gained ground in each of 3 SurveyUSA tracking polls going back to 07/20/12. Obama's once 12-point lead among Florida women has been reduced to 4 points. The contest is tied among men. Narrowly, Cubans vote Republican. Decisively, non-Cuban Hispanics vote Democrat. Voters under age 50 vote for Obama. Voters age 50+ vote for Romney. Whites vote for Romney 5:4. Moderates vote for Obama 5:4. Independents break 44% to 40% for Romney.

This is one of the better polls we're seeing for Romney. As always, let's dig into the internals and learn why its even better than face value.

Items to consider: 1) This is the WORST top line number in Florida right now. So down 1% is great if it was even accurate.

But 2) CNN had the 2008 party breakdown as 37 D, 34 R, 29 I.

This poll produced 43 D, 34 R, 23 I.

Now, as always, let me say that you cannot directly compare this numbers because they're measuring at two different points and with two different intentions. Still, there is not a snowball's chance in hell that the electorate will look like that.

ROMNEY HAS GOT FLORIDA. Everyone from these states need to work hard and seal the deal. We ought to pull up all of our outside resources and head to CO, IA and NV. I'm actually going down with the campaign to hit Colorado next weekend. Go Mitt!

“Everyone from these states need to work hard and seal the deal”.

Indead!!! I’ve got a dozen new voters to register and vote R down the line. Also educated them on our MT Supreme Court and who needs to go.

People this fight has just begun. We need to rip these Socialist and Muslim ticks out of our education system. We need to prepare to fight a 20 year war to turn the last 100 years back. Might take way less with Internet, Twitter & Faceplant.

I’m in Tampa and I don’t think its that close. Obama and Biden have made several trips here, they wouldn’t do that unless they were worried.

In the 2008 exit poll D was 37%. That was O’s high water mark. Put Florida in the Romney column, it’s all over down there.

I know a lot of Floridians and most of the Democrats I know are voting for Romney, or not voting.

Florida is Romney's.

D +9? Seriously? And they expect people to swallow this?

So this poll is really showing Mr Mitt up by at least 7.

I live in Floriduuh, all I see around is Romney signs and very few of Obama’s. Something really stinks if there is only a 1 point difference. Fellow Floridians, what do you see in your neighborhoods?

I hear ya! I'm in Fl., and I'm active. I have a neighbor who is from PA and a registered Dem. After the first debate, a Romney/Ryan sign sprouted in her yard within a few days. My County went strong for M/Palin in 08.I have been working on my contacts in PA and have some converts, about 18 so far. I could not talk to these frinds in 08. In 2012, they are FRiends!
