This morning, as MSNBC's Morning Joe came to an end, co-host Mika Brzezinski had some praise for colleagues and the company she works for. "We've been talking a lot this week about women and equal pay and all these issues," she said. "I have to say, in all seriousness, I'm very lucky to be working with you [co-host Joe Scarborough] and for a company [MSNBC] who has actually dealt with this problem transparently."
Which basically amounts to Brzezinski saying that she is "lucky" to get paid half as much as Joe Scarborough.
After all, according to the Daily Beast (whose editor, Tina Brown, is a frequent guest on the show), Scarborough makes a cool $4 million per year, while Brzezinski's salary is half as much, coming in at $2 million per year.
Brzezinski's colleague Andrea Mitchell made this point on air yesterday--that pay disparity exists at MSNBC. Politico reports:
During an interview Thursday, Mitt Romney senior adviser Barbara Comstock told Andrea Mitchell that we know here at MSNBC the guys get paid more" and the MSNBC host replied, We certainly do.
For Brzezinski's part, it's more than a bit odd that she would play down the problems at MSNBC now.
After all, her public dispute with MSNBC about pay equity has been well known. In fact, she's made it herself on her own show.
"We make less than our male counterparts," said Brzezinski last year. "I found out on this show that I made a lot less than Joe. 14 times less."
Yes. And while he was coming from primetime and he was worth a lot more, he's also the creator of the show, I was certainly not 14 times less worth than him. And it was my fault ultimately that I was in that position because I accepted a deal that wasn't right for me. And I didn't have the perception and confidence in myself to communicate that effectively. It took four tries with MSNBC president Phil Griffin who is, you know, a tough manager but doing the right thing for his company to get it right for myself.
Brzezinski says she almost left MSNBC over the pay disparity problem. And she wrote a book about overcoming gender discrimination in the workplace (though, again, she still reportedly makes half as much as her male counterpart).
But in an election year, perhaps playing down pay disparity at a liberal institution by extension makes liberal politicians look better. And Brzezinski's preference for Obama is beyond well established.
I don’t think he performs all that much for work for that show. It seems like a take a lot of personal leave, with guest hosts being very frequent. In event, he’s a pale reflection of the man who was voted in with the famous republican class of 94. Dems are such hypocrites on “equal pay” matters, and women issues, in general.
Who? Mika Brezhinsky? You are sick and twisted individual.
:-)
Stop trying to elevate the conversation around here.
Back when I worked for companies I frequently learned from colleagues they had greater comp packages than I. They were usually drunk when passi g out this info to puff their synthetic egos.
I never dicussed my salary but frequently left my commission checks on my desk, so anyon could walk by and casually observe the numbers.
Bottom line is:
While they had a better salary package and were satiated by it I earned, in total, more than most by 200%-500%,because I brought in more business, as opposed to their almost unmeasurable results.
They are still losers and posures.
Maybe it’s not fair, but Kirsten Powers has always seemed a little gross to me ever since I found out she used to date Anthony Weiner.
She is the only liberal news commentator that has gone after Obama on the Libya issue. On this topic she has excoriated her liberal brothers and sisters in the news media. Kudos to her.

Tht is pretty gross but, I’d still hit her if it long enough ago.
The day they name the show “Morning Mika” she might have a point. Until then she’s just eye candy and could be replaced in five minutes without missing a beat.
I’d pay her $25K. But she’d have to wear one of those little maid outfits while she dusts.
How someone like Mika gets 2 million a year is a mystery to me. Joe making 4 million is equally mysterious.
It’s what the market will bear I suppose but I just can’t fathom that either are ‘worth’ that much.
You should read her tweets during the debates. Sometimes I think the Dems are going to pull her card.
You are if, demanding more money, they decided to go with someone with more of a track record and you lost the gig altogether.
When you're trying to get your foot in the door you're not in a position to demand a high salary. You take what you can get and use the opportunity to learn your chops. Later, maybe, you're in a position to demand more money. Which she did and she got.
Since she's not that bright, its hard to imagine what she'd be doing if she lost this gig. She sees herself as some kind of victim when in reality she is richly blessed.
I think Romney was talking about people like her.
Dude, you’re a buzz kill.
That’s cryptonite to my fantasy world.
Somethings that are learned cannot be unlearned.
What poor (deficient) Mika doesn't understand is, that she just demonstrated why it's reasonable for 'some' women to make less than their male counterparts.
Message lost, because there is no sound detected if there are no brains close to where the tree falls.
Everyone at MSDNC is overpaid, including Deliverance “Banjo Boy” Scarborough.
Be careful there. I’ve notice some of the old die-hard lefties are trying a new tactic this year.
They know their negatives have been through the rough, so now they give you a point or three, then raise one issue at then end that is intended to be the real take-away.
I think it’s fairly effective too.
They come off looking like they’re honest. I’m not totally buying it.
The problem, of course, is that Mika does NOT do the same job as Scarborough. It is his show and bears his name. And for $2 million a year, she gets all the bikini waxes she wants, has her brown roots taken care of every day and has a wardrobe that most women would kill for.
I’d love to know what her secretary thinks of her.
You know my philosophy is that when I take a job, I have accepted the salary offered to me - I did the deal. When I get on board......whatever someone else makes shouldn’t be my business. What these Democratic women or the Obama Manniquins should be asking is - Why is there such a pay disparity within the Obama Administration (18% less than their male counterparts)? Also, I understand the drive to have health insurance pay for contraception - although I grew up in a time where I paid for the pill myself - contraception is readily available (trojans in bathrooms). Why should government or insurance pay for birth control, abortions and more importantly Viagra? Some might say the “pill” is needed for health reasons - well if you can’t afford to pay for a monthly supply - you can go to Planned Parenthood and they will provide the product based on a sliding income scale. In other words - if you are poor and needy, you’ll get it for free.
Insurance was designed to protect us when the unexpected happens accidents, floods, fire catastrophes that cost more than most of us can pay. Severe illness is a good reason to have insurance.
‘As far as I am concerned, based on the few times I have seen her, MSNBC is paying her about $1,999,999 too much for her services.”
Frankly, she should be paying THEM for putting up with her. She has absolutely no talent, all she knows how to do is make disapproving faces, purse up her lips, and mumble under her breath if the guys are saying something she disagrees with.
I can’t think of another woman “journalist” who rubs me the wrong way as much as this bimbo.
“I agree with Hillary...” Talk about things you would have never thought you’d ever say!
