Gallup: The Unemployment Rate Is Collapsing

More evidence that the official 7.8% unemployment rate is not the wild outlier people initially thought.

This just in from Gallup:

--------

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- U.S. unemployment, as measured by Gallup without seasonal adjustment, is 7.3% in mid-October, down considerably from 7.9% at the end of September and at a new low since Gallup began collecting employment data in January 2010. Gallup's seasonally adjusted unemployment rate is 7.7%, also down from September. October's adjusted mid-month measure is also more than a percentage point lower than October 2011.

These results are based on Gallup Daily tracking surveys conducted by landline and cell phone with more than 30,000 U.S. adults from Sept. 16-Oct. 15. Gallup's seasonally adjusted unemployment rate incorporates the .04 upward adjustment used by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) in October of last year. The adjustment for September was an increase of .02, which explains the .04 drop in seasonally adjusted employment despite the .06 decline in the unadjusted number.

He should also move tax day to election day.

Doubt it makes much difference any more. Most of the Baraqqi Coalition either don't pay any at all or have earned income credits and get money for nothing.

My next door neighbor lost her job in 2010, her unemployment has run out and she still has no job. She'd never been involuntarily separated let alone drawn unemployment, up to that point. She's pursued every lead, sent out countless resumes, had maybe six interviews in that entire time. She was a branch supervisor for a bank. Her savings are almost shot, I talked to her this evening when I got home. BB&T just announced a big call center locally that will eventually employ 1,700, she's very eager to talk to them about any opportunity that might represent. I have no idea what will happen if she doesn't land something soon. She bought that house new in 1993, mine was finished in 1994. We've been neighbors for 18 years. She has a young adopted daughter.

Maybe you should request to have some prayer warriors pray for your neighbor. It is a powerfully effective way of helping those in need.

True... but then most people think they are paying Federal taxes, because of FICA. The first time they get a paycheck they see their check cut in half and you can't tell them they aren't paying because they aren't looking at the earned income credit when they look at their check. But over time they don't remember the hit they took because they get accustomed to the tiny check. And because the SS was taken out of their wages before they received their check, they don't feel the impact of it as they would if they were paid in full and then required to hand over their SS "dues" all at once at tax time.

As it is many sincerely believe they are getting a "bonus" when they get a refund, not realizing they are just getting back what they overpaid while the government kept the interest it could have earned, and prevented them from investing nearly half their earnings in what could have been a more profitable endeavor.

The government takes incrementally but does not deliver the refund incrementally for a reason. The liberals have people thinking they are getting a big fat gift from government once a year instead of recouping what was lost. Of course, with the EIC and such some people are getting a gift.

Perhaps what I should have said is that our side needs to think of ways to foil the left's financial trickery and clear some of the fog.

That would be good. I’ve spoken to her about prayer, she said that’s what is keeping her sane, prayer. She’d welcome it.

It’s either:
1. a rush of people whose unemployment benefits ran out jumping into a job, any job, to get by
2. the loosening of “employment” under the changes to work-fare laws mean that many people searching for childcare or on bed rest or saying they watch a friend’s kids once in a while counting as employed
3. Every little part time gig counts as a “job”, so one person with three gigs or two part time jobs counts as two employed people.

if you look at a political map county by county it is mostly red with some blue around LA and San Francisco, san bernardino and riverside counties just turned blue because of all the “welfare dumping”, where the welfare people send families out to places like Barstow or Hemet to get free housing

I am talking about county by county and I am not too far off , according to voter registration its more like 55/45

the MSM does a good job pushing liberalism obviously, and yes the republican party in CA is extreme liberal

Not so.

But you keep on believing that, if you must.

The rest of us will vote for Romney with some enthusiasm.

Some.

And wait for 2016.

I was thinking also doing odd jobs so to speak. Everyone is tight on money, small companies often need help but are unwilling to commit to hire even a part time. But they can sometimes go for someone who could work at home or just do selected jobs, like freelance. the little jobs can add up. she could perhaps offer services on anything from filling out complex paperwork, helping write applications/proposals for grants or loans, bookkeeping, regulatory compliance assistance, consulting, taxes, whatever she feels she could competently do (combo home office and on-site). Just a thought. With the holidays coming up maybe she can get seasonal work.

I know she’s done some light clerical work for her church, whether that was done for some sort of in-kind assistance, I don’t know. She’s been battling panic attacks lately, that can’t be helping matters. Experienced that myself back in 2008 when my business went down, it’s not pleasant at all. Imagine being scared out of your wits by some sudden, unexpected thing, the heart racing, the adrenaline and the jitters, but it can go on for hours. Prayer granted me relief from that, I hope it has for her, too.

There's SO many in need these days...please pray for all of them.

If “collapsing” means that the basis for calculating it the way the government does these days is no longer valid, then this article might be correct!

Nope. And a member of our family who is looking for full-time work is still only getting part-time jobs here and there.
