HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. The room set aside for reporters to watch Tuesday night's debate erupted into applause after President Obama ridiculed the size of Mitt Romney's personal wealth.
Mr. Romney was trying to make the point that both his and Mr. Obama's investment funds probably include investments in China something the president has attacked Mr. Romney for.
"Mr. President, have you looked at your pension?" Mr. Romney said.
"You know, I don't look at my pension. It's not as big as yours, so it it doesn't take as long," Mr. Obama retorted. His reply prompted laughter in the debate hall where the two men were squaring off but across the way in the separate room where the press was stationed, a brief round of applause broke out.

Thou shalt not covet.
They're like children.
Romney’s retort should have been, Mr. President, your wealth is far in excess of the audience members this evening. Why don’t you just knock off the class warfare nonsense and answer the question. You did realize you’d be asked some questions you’d have to answer tonight didn’t you?
Excellent suggestion for a response.
Just wait until the “reporters” find out their 401Ks will be taken over by Bath-House Barry IF he/she’s re-selected.
To 99.9% of all Americans they are both insanely wealthy, but only one of them got there money from the public sector.
Romney STOP ENGAGING O’BUMBLER and JUST KEEP HITTING HIM!
Yet they adore Soros and every Hollywood 1%er.
Like Mitt. If I could be like Mitt.
Rich people slamming richer people. How impressive. :(
President told a penis joke?
Or maybe it should have read: President has no idea about the details of his own pension and what he’s invested in.
There is no substance in the subject. It is entirely a matter of jealousy about what someone else has. If wealth of any kind is now to be considered a negative thing then everyone can get used to higher and higher unemployment, fewer commodities, higher prices and less of every comfort and only bare necessities. Save your corn cobs!
And Romney could have responded, “Yes it is, and I BUILT ALL OF IT. I am proud of that, and I know how to build wealth and economic success.”
“Poverty is noble” is a warped reading of a Christian concept that urges men never to allow wealth to become their god.
I never understand why we’re supposed to pretend Obama isn’t a millionaire. Because he’s a Dem and their for the little guy? Pishaw. Because he’s black and not an athelete/rapper and so can’t possibly have fat stacks? Maybe. Because he earned it and Romney’s a rich kid turned roberbaron? Nobody but nobody would’ve bought Obama’s books hadn’t the Chicago Machine picked him out of the deck of angry young community organizers.
But I’m getting away from the point. Obama’s rich, too, is the point.
Obama did get rich off his books first, so it was originally from the private sector. Though nobody would’ve heard of him if he hadn’t been a politician and for whatever reason a handpicked rising star. So it’s kind of a push.
